1st Gen camper shells

There was no OEM Tundra camper shell. The front window isn’t missing, the shell has a boot to the back of the truck to allow pass through to the truck when the window is open. Not specific to Tundras, many shells used this option even without the roll down rear window. Agree with @shifty` , mystery is easily solved by the plate in the truck. Hopefully it’s a match for you!

Has anyone else noticed a rearward drift over time? When i replaced the seals it seemed a little further back, and now...


About that far every 5k miles. Do i need more clamps? Double sided foam tape instead of a double bubble seal? The back window is the only 'leak' i have. No regertz. But seems like this thing might try to jump ship if it could.

 

All that wind resistance. That's crazy it moved that much.

 

I need a plastic 'boat tail' about 6' long hanging off the back with a removable belly. Change my bullet shape to more of a cartoon raindrop.

 

I definitely have had a couple times where my clamps weren't as tight as they should've been and it slipped backwards. Style of clamp and how tight you clamp makes a difference. But I'm guessing so do the your seals on the underside where it makes contact with the rails.

 

Is there a known leak spot associated with the bed caps? Ever since getting my topper, the front passenger corner leaks. I replaced the foam tape with double-bubble style tape recently and it still leaks in the same spot.

I suspect the gaps at the ends of the bed caps, but I'm not sure. And not sure why it doesn't also happen on the driver side.

 

Where the bedliner meets the side caps i added some extra foam i had laying around. My front window might leak a hair, but the only place i've seen water get inis through the rear window, need to replace that seal.

Really nice looking ARE MPulse topper with big slider windows for an Access Cab in SE Tennessee. No clue what they actually want in $$ but this is one of ARE's better caps for our trucks. I still prefer the Leer 100R, but this or a SnugTop would be my 2nd choice in the fitment/brand category.

I could never figure mine out either, always leaked a little around front window on driver side, but couldn't tell where. Next time I put it on truck will be for camping/hunting so will need to figure that out.... Honestly I might just lay a bead of silicone everywhere on the topside of windows.

 

Far as I can tell, my leak is coming from the topper to truck bed seal, not the windows. I suspect the joint between the side rails and front rail of the bed, especially with the extra complication of the bed caps there. But I'm still not sure. We're back to hot, dry, smoky weather.

 

If your OEM bedliner (assuming intact)is over-rail as most are, there is a gap between the liner and the bedrail caps. When I installed my Bakflip, they give you a foam square to install in that little valley to shore things up. When the Bakflip is latched on, it compresses the foam to be flush with the bed cap and liner, helping to keep water out in that entry point. You may want to inspect, and consider the same may be happening with your cap.

 

No bedliner in my truck. If that's something that came standard, the PO must have removed it when he put in the bed rug.

 

Specifically the gap right here between the liner and bedrail cap. You can barely see it here, but that's effectively where it is on all 1st gens with the OEM liner intact. If you don't have the liner, it may still be that gap, the rail cap stands at least 3/8" proud of the bed.

Well guys, I finally found my camper shell. A very well priced GFC off a friend

 

Yea, split about an inch of the double bubble & passed my wires through one of the bubble. Its stuffed in short of the rear bubble across the front, so i have a solid seal all the way across. Minus the wire. Need to finish reseting mine, since i fixed the busted rivet.

How hard is it to set up shitfaced?

 

Not sure, haven't had the opportunity to experience that yet

It's pretty easy though. Twist two latches by hand loose, pop them inwards, then give the top a decent push and you're done

 

Does the ladder go to the ground or the tailgate?

 

Didn't come with one but it does go to the ground. Honestly if the tailgate is dropped I could easily hop into the camper. Also fairly easy to hop into the camper from the inside, 2 panels inside pull out so you can hop up

 

Like up through the floor? Dont bust the back window trying to hop up there.
