1999 toyota Tundra smells like farts

My 99 tundra has a HORRIBLE fart smell coming from the back cabin. I mean its like cheese on a griddle. Ive taken it in to the mechanic.. told me its my AUX beam interference causing it to smell. They also said it could be the catalytic converter going bad. At this point I don’t know where to start and it’s starting to get expensive. Any ideas?

 

Cats going bad will smell like sulphur at startup.

Oh please don’t tell me that your Tundra never smelled like farts. I mean i tried putting a little tree air freshener in it but it made it worse. I really think it’s something rotting inside the ac vents

You may have a dead rodent or small dead animal somewhere in the truck. Rotting meat of any sort (protein’s breaking down) can smell like “farts” to a certain point…

 

I'm confused, I thought 2000 was the first year for the Tundra. I'm new to the Tundras, so forgive me if I'm off base.

This is correct. OP is mistaken. Although he may have bought a 2000 model year in 1999, and be conflating the two.

 

I have no reason to doubt you. Perhaps he (or maybe you??) can explain to the class if the smell of farts is a normal part of that occurrence of eeeeVENTS.

It has a class of ‘99 bumper sticker on it so im assuming its a 1999. (Also found a curly fry under the seat with a receipt from Pic n save from 1999. So im pretty sure its from 1999. I bought it 5 years ago from a guy thats a sanitation specialist. So i put the ac on blast. It now rattles under the truck and absolutely reeks of farts. (I dont think its a dead animal anymore because its been a while since the fart smells been going on).

 

As stated previously, it is not a 1999. First model year was 2000, which began selling in 1999.

 

Maybe, just maybe, it’s not the truck that smells like farts……

I definitely wouldn't be calling him a specialist if he left you with a truck that smells.

The best is when you rip an air biscuit floater with the cooling fan seats on full blast, then everyone gets a taste.

 

Did you check to see if there's some old Craftsman screwdrivers rolling around under the seats?

 

Any check engine light
Maybe a bad coil pack causing misfire and if so raw unburnt fuel is being dumped into catalytic converter. If that’s the issue that will ruin the catalytic converter if not fixed. Raw fuel in cats stink bad.
