What's up? Looking to go up to 35's and am torn between 17s and 18s. I like my options and the look of the 17s better by my Toyota guy had a few reservations on the 17s. I am on toytec front and back and ironman bumper...
his quote was "downfall is they can be hard to balance because of clearance with the caliper and if you ever want to put a big break kit on it the kit will not work with 17s".

He has done all the work on my rig and done me right...what are your thoughts/

I've never heard of balancing weights interfering with calipers on 17's. And, will you really put a big brake kit on your rig? I would say either way you go, you will be just fine.

There are plenty running 35s(+) on 17s. Road force balancing will help mitigate a mountain of weights, but they'll clear the caliper regardless. It is tight.

There's only one BBK that'll fit made by Alcon (@reywcms is the one who I remember posted pics).

17s on factory brakes does need attention where the weights are mounted for the front brakes and all wheels if you rotate them (i.e. front wheels in rear etc).

I've source and installed Alcons bbk this is the only kit that has front and rear brakes but also fits in a 17" wheel. Awesome kit and hands down one of the best mods done. They also clear 17s better than the factory setup due to the casting shape etc.

Anyone know the difference in caliper from pre 2016 to 2016-2021? P/N changed from 47730-0C030 to 47730-0C040.

Guessing it's the mounting locations since the Alcon kit is listed for 2016-2021. So 2008-2015 would also require a knuckle swap?

So in your opinion my guy knew what he was talking about? Do 17s interfere with factory brakes?
Do you have an opinion on the balancing?

I don’t think many know there’s a BBK kit available that fits the 17” wheel. Plenty of us run 17s with no balancing issues. I would disagree with them on that one

    I don’t have 35s but I do have 17s with a +7 offset. No issues at all

Kits legit stopping power is ridiculous. Did front and rear on pops rig but will most likely only need fronts at our weight

As stated the person balancing them just has to be mindful. I just tried to rotate my tires on 17s this weekend and the knucklehead that balanced them with sticky weights put them at a spot on the one rear wheel where it hits the front calipers, but clear fine on the smaller rear brakes. Now I have to go back there and have it rebalanced just to rotate them.

I had issues getting my tires balanced on 17s. But, KO2s notoriously can be difficult to balance. It didn’t help that the tire techs did not understand what was being asked of them for caliper clearance (especially when talking about rotation clearance). Still, I would chose a 17” wheel again.

I have 17" wheels with 12.5X35 tires and zero offset and have no problems. I think I was fortunate with the wheel and weight combo.

I went with 18’s only because I wanted a specific tire size, but am super stoked to get my Alcons installed next Friday.

Rey helped talk me into the purchase, and Chris from Alcon was great to work with during the purchase. Only “complaint” I had was he was busy traveling and responses took a little longer than typical once I was ready to pull the trigger. Totally understandable.

Since I tow pretty heavy, I went with the full set.

But, back to your original question, there should be no worry with 17” wheels fitting or balancing. Rock Warriors came with them from factory! Brakes are the same size in all of the 2nd generation trucks from what I understand, with only some minor changes to fastener sizes.

If you go 17”, the weights just need to be mindfully placed when balancing.
