1794 with or without the TRD package?

    Hello wise Tundra owners.

I am hoping to join you in illustrious Tundra ownership in the coming months, but I had a question regarding the 1794 Tundra.

I plan to get a 1794, but am stuck on deciding between having it with, or without the TRD off road package.

    Question:
If I plan to eventually get a 3inch lift, bigger wheels (35 or 37), and change out the grill for the TRD Pro one, then is there any benefit to the TRD package at all?

Would I be better suited getting the advanced package instead, or are there things about the TRD off road package that I'd be missing in an off road environment? (ie, does it come with skid plates or a better suspension?)

Thanks for your advice, I'm new to the full size truck world and am trying to learn as much as possible!

Rear locker on TRD OR. Shocks and skid plates too.

The benefit is the factory off-roading suite (multi-terrain select, crawl control, rear locker). I think I would be more tempted to start with a blank slate and not use the factory e-locker. I was glad that Toyota added one to the new Tundra, but I absolutely hate the fact that you can only use it in 4Lo.

I'd rather add an aftermarket locker that I can run in 4Hi or even 2Hi.

The rear locker can be a biggie for some people. The electronic off road modes (crawl control and MTS) on the Off Road models are a little gimmicky to some, but I like them.

Many people upgrade the suspension pretty quickly beyond what comes stock on the TRD Off Road, particularly if you are getting it lifted. Same goes for skid plates.

Thank for all the good input! I think I'll try for the TRD package after reading about the off road modes and rear diff. Appreciate it!

I went through this debate myself.... I went for a regular 1794.
Skidplate and cat protection I will do myself. (bought rci products for that)

Crawl etc? Blah. Shocks in the back are nice but I can replace those at a later time too.

Dont get the advanced package- harder to upgrade the suspension.

Id go TRD offroad- high resale value and has all the tech that toyota deems worthy for offroad + locker. Swap out shocks and wheels/ tires and they are straight wicked offroad

TRD OR does NOT have skid plates. It’s a plastic shield and will shatter upon meeting face to face with anything harder than a wedding dick.
