1794 2021 grill swap for trd pro question

I am buying a new 2021 1794 w trd pro upgrade. I’m wanting to I swap the 1794 for the trd pro grill and am told the way the grill is mounted is different than other models and the trd is not compatible. It’s my Understanding the tss sensor has to be moved from the emblem on the 1794 grill to the plate on the trd pro.

Is it true you cannot do a grill swap for a trd pro on a 1794 due to how the grill is mounted.. or is the dealer just saying this due to not wanting to swap diff models grills.

Could be wrong but pretty sure all grills mount the same, but definitely need to relocate the sensor. I have a TSS but did the old style pro grill and had to get a relocate bracket.

 

The dealer is full of crap. The sensor is located lower on the TRD Pro grille than other versions, but everything mounts to the truck and the sensor to the back of the grille the same way. I have the Pro grille on my 2018 SR5.

 

Welcome to the form! I think the dealer is trying to find some profit from your purchase. Better be careful, once it starts, they don't let off the gas. I hate a GD car lot finance office, after the deal is made, they always take two hours to persuade the customer to purchase all the extra warranties, gap insurance, etc. BS!!

The dealer is wrong, you can swap grilles. Didn't know you could get a 1794 PRO.

 

You can get the TRD off road package on an 1794 . Its basically just the shocks, skid plate and etc.

 

You said "trd pro upgrade" in your OP, which is what is being questioned. TRD Off Road package and the TRD Pro are two very different offerings.

 

apologies for my mis type. I was under the impression that the trd off road package and the trd pro are VERY SIMILAR in terms of equipment.Are they not? I too had the pro grill on my 2017 1794.That is why I'm inquiring about doing it again. I really hate the 1794 stock grill and chrome.

 

Nope - the TRD Off Road shocks are "trail tuned" Bilstein 4600s. They ride a little stiffer than the stock black shocks that come on the other trims. The Pro shocks are (on current models) Fox with reservoirs that lift the front 2" to level the truck. As for the skid plates, the TRD Off Road skid is a glorified splash guard. The Pro skid is 1/4" aluminum and is pretty substantial. I believe the other skids (fuel tank and something else I can't remember) are the same, but aren't all that much in terms of protection.

 

Whomever you’re talking to from the dealership is either full of sh*t or they lack any initiative to find out. I (and others on here) have the trail edition, where it came with the 1794 style grill and I can say 100% that the newer pro style grills will fit.

Not to mention the difference in cost of a TRD Off Road package and the TRD Pro Tundra.
It's several thousand $$$, if not 10s of thousands of $$$$ these days..

@Sogarmy dealer salesmen and service managers are lazy.
They will act like they know it all when they know absolutely nothing.
Much like many gun store and audio store salesman.

When I bought my 2014 new, I asked my service guy what the box was under the passenger seat.
He looked at it, and told me is was the truck ECM and had many uses.
Come to find out after my own research, it was the useless Entune audio amplifier...
