I am looking to upgrade the sub in my ‘18 CM ( OEM JBL setup) .

Has anyone tried the replacement sub enclosure from 12Volt Tech?

Looks like the easiest swap and will provide a nice improvement with an option down the road to use with an upgraded amp.

Any feedback? Worth $200- ? thanks

I swear by anything that guy sells because it comes with his service. Just read ANY of the many threads on here about dealing with James. Yes the sub is good for the $$

I have not purchased that sub, as others have replied, James is top notch with his products and service (before & after a sale).

I have the dash tweeter kit he offers and couldn't be happier. I also have a quote on door speakers that will be purchased later this summer.

Not in sound but bass response. Will it be ANYTHING like with an aftermarket amp? Absolutely not. That stock amp is garbage but it will improve your bass along with carry over when you inevitably get an aftermarket amp

I bought the amp and speaker/ box on the last group buy and it was night and day different. I also highly recommend @james@tech12volts for any of your audio needs

I agree with 00Tyler10, bass response was way better. Its fantastic now with a new 800 watt amp.

I have had the sub for over a year. Running on a Pioneer 2000 watt mono amp and it is fantastic. I hated (even though I almost never saw it) not having the panel behind it because I wanted the space the oem sub displaced but got that a few weeks ago on eBay so I'm 1000000% happy now.

James is a totally stand up seller and his products are top rate. Buy with confidence!

this 100%. It's the missing link on the OEM JBL system that transforms it into an adequate "premium factory" sound system.

I have that exact box and sub and it kicks hard for a single 10". It's hard enough to feel the punch in the back when the bass hits and rear view mirror vibrates so much you can't tell what's in it. It has a very high max watt rating and an average RMS rating so James had me set the sub to 2-ohms even though I have an amp that exceeds the RMS rating at 2-ohms by about 150watts. No issues and I beat the thing pretty hard. I may go to with two 10's or 12's cause I want to scramble my brain so I'v been just abusing this one hoping it blows to justify a new purchase. It just keeps taking the beating.

Now I had it for a few weeks with the stock amp and will say upgrading the amp was the single best use of $. The stock amp will move this sub but not like an aftermarket.

It’s def worth the $200. I’ve got a used one for sale for $150, I used it for a
couple of months with the measly JBL amp pushing it and it is MUCH better than stock. Ended up doing the whole JL Audio system with tech12volts (JRT) snd Kenwood DDX9707s and I love it.

ABSOLUTELY worth the $200. I bought the following from him:

    - Amp (JBL Stadium 5)
    - Sub enclosure
    - Wiring

I ended up going with a Kicker shallow-mount sub at the time simply to save a few bucks...but even still, it sounds freaking phenomenal. I'll definitely be buying more from him in the future.

I’ve heard it’s worth it. I figured the enclosure first. Then an amp if I’m still not happy. Then eventually all the speakers if I’m still unhappy. But from what I read I’ll be happy with just replacing the sub itself.

It’s a good place to start and the upgrade path is there. I wasn’t a fan of the head unit and wanted wireless car play so I went full on rip and replace with JRT. I think the sub and box with aftermarket amp is the best way to make it a complete system. (And how it should have come from factory). I don’t have the skills or patience to install everything that JRT did with the complete system (5hrs labor that I sat and watched at his shop) but just replacing the factory sub took me about 20 min tops :)

You will be impressed at how that dinky JBL amp can light up the sub swap on some particular songs (rap) but all but disappear on other songs (rock) Adding an aftermarket amp and bass knob is the way to go imo. Knob allows you to crank up bass on songs where it would be light otherwise without having to get into EQ settings while driving etc.

Can anyone tell me if this sub enclosure will just plug and play? I’m no audio guy so it’s new to me. How do you move the amp over from old box. Is there a link where someone posted the complete install? Thanks for any help!
