Hey all, recently got a dash cam and noticed it’s not automatically powering on like it would on my old 05 Tacoma. Idk anything about how these ports work. Is there a reasoning behind it not automatically turning on with the newer models?
I connect it to the port underneath the radio.
Sorry if this was already discussed, I couldn’t find it.

I'm on a 2nd Gen so I don't have any factory USBs, but most cig lighters/ports are tied to ignition on like you're used too. It might be possible that's a data port for the stereo and not just your standard 5v usb charging port, in which case it might be tied to the stereo power? Hopefully someone else with a new Tundra can help you more.

My dash cam connects to the cigarette port, so I don’t think this adapter would work :(

Yeah I have no idea how they work. Just know it must be something with the new ones since my Tacoma didn’t have this problem.

No, there should be nothing unique about how the power outlets on these trucks are wired. They are directly relayed/fused to the battery, and are live when the truck is in ACC or RUN.

Sometimes there are settings to have it automatically turn on when power is applied. Otherwise I think you have to manually hit the power button.

The power ports on my Tundra stay powered for a while after key-off if there is a load plugged in to one. I’m not sure if it’s a hour, or two, or???

I think only on trucks prior to 2014.
