I finally bit the bullet and bought a truck earlier this summer. Went the long way around and changed cars from single to married to kids. Nothing too fancy. Just a bunch of fixes and mods for daily living.

    Previous vehicles:

Picked up an 08 SR5 CM TRD off road package with 108k on the odometer. 1st day home in its stock used glory:

Previous owner was a smoker, so found this to help clean out the odor:

Noticed I could barely see my reverse indicators. Found the culprit:

1st "mod" was to get rid of the plastic bed liner and inspect the bed. There were the usual rust spots in the front corners and behind each wheel arch. Went the DIY route with Herculiner. Now that I've done it, I would never do it again.

Used the left over bed liner on the front skid plate as it was showing signs of surface rust.

Next purposeful mod was a locking tailgate. I had these door lock actuators laying around from a previous project. Went the DIY and got it done.

Maintenance was next. Plugs, belt, coolant, greased the driveline, pad slapped the rear pads. (not pictured PS fluid change, brake fluid flush, driveline fluids changed)

Noticed oil was dripping from the cap's drain plug. Dealer mentioned a recent oil change. I went investigating and found that the plug was double gasketed. Changed the oil that day.

Added some bed lighting in preparation of daylight's savings. Tapped the cargo light wire as identified by this forum. (Not pictured: added LED's in the cargo light and interior as well).

Added "D" rings in the stock bed rail holes to help strapping in cargo.

Found a grille listed locally and attempted to paint match it.

Removed my dashcam from the 4Runner and put it in.

Installed a Fortin Evo-1 remote start system

Found some rear 4600 take offs to replace my worn out set

Recently, found a set of 1794 20's and Tyger stararmor side steps. Put on 275/55/20 Falken Wildpeaks.

    As of Dec 2019

All the maintenance and "needed" fixes are up to date. The rig is currently serving as the family van with homeowner duties.

Now, time to research some fun mods and convince the wife they are needed!

Very nice! Honestly, the only thing I would do differently is a smaller wheel, but if it's staying on pavement 20s will work well for you.

I just wanted an OEM Plus upgrade. The truck will only ever see some back service roads when we go camping and MN crap roads. I was holding out for the 2.5 gen TRD off road 18's but everyone up here wants an arm and a leg for them (when they come around). Found the 20's for almost nothing and couldn't pass them up.

Solid plan, and honestly, they don't look like 20s with those tires. It's a sharp looking rig.

    Looking good, Nice Tundra!

Had not thought about tapping the cargo lights, makes good sense.

I also like the skid plate. Many have cut a hole in it for oil filter access; really easy and great to not remove any more.

Other maintenance items to consider if not done:
    -Differential fluid change
    -Transmission Drain and fill

Also, (if not already) Consider Interior LEDs for better lighting; Really brightens it up. There are some affordable ones out there. Also LED Tail & reverse lights are a nice touch. Signals are nice but are not as straightforward, and usually cost a bit more.

Haha. Yeah. Wife said I can never "not" modify my vehicles. But to my justification, the majority of this rig so far has been fixes or maintenance, aside from the recent purchases of the wheels/tires.

Thanks. That was going to be my last resort. I tried the homemade remedy of baking soda and constant vacuuming, the Meguairs interior bomb, then found Ozium. A couple sprays a day over a week and the smells were all gone.

Nice! Its a pretty good last resort. Id crack a window to get the cord in, set it on the center console, and just run it for hours. Could also run it while the car is on and circulating air through the HVAC to really clean things out.

Similar thing to what restoration companies use after fire damage, but smaller and cheaper.

Also put in the base level Boss head unit with rear view cam. I drilled and imitated the OEM location.

Most recent interior mod was replacing the manual rearview mirror with a $5 Gentex mirror I pulled from the junkyard. 3 wires to tap and installed.
