So I was looking into upgrading my sport to a lunar rock pro but so far if I can find one on the east coast they all are marked up 10k. Last year in my area you couldn't walk 10 feet without tripping over a pro when I was shopping early summer. Now it's like a ghost town for the lunar color. I get it supply and demand and shortages. I'm wondering if I wait till maybe summer again there will be maybe more available? I mean don't get me wrong I really want a pro but not for some 35k over what I paid for my sport.

That's a lot of money for an appearance package. Have you looked out of your area?

Yeah like 500 mile radius. There's like only two I've found.

Check the build link in my signature.
I was searching entire country when I found mine...by dumb luck it was only 100 miles away. I used AutoTrader, searched for ONLY the make (Tundra) and keyword “Lunar” and then started grabbing the VIN numbers from those results and running them through the VIN checker on Toyota’s website to confirm what each truck really was (CM or DC, and if it was actually a Lunar Rock Pro or not, and what options), and then on the ones that I knew were what I was looking for, I would then reach out to the dealer.

Lots wanted $5k over. A few wanted $10k over. One wanted $15k over. And there were a small number that weren’t asking for anything extra...I even found one that was $1500 under but the cost for me to fly there and drive it back (including time off work) would have been a wash.

    Good luck!

Yeah I found one that there wasn't a mark up on but it was 7 hours away. So I was corresponding via email to work out a deal but someone flew in from Oklahoma to buy it. Unfortunately I have a trade so I need to locate one within a fair driving distance. I'll have to do the vin checker thing bc sometimes I'm curious if the grey ones are actually grey

I was having similar results initially when I was searching for instock options. I finally had luck by calling every dealership in the area and actually talking to a salesman. I was then able narrow down the dealers that where adding ADM and those selling it MSRP.

All of the MSRP dealers didn’t have anything available but most had waiting lists. I was deciding if it was worth the wait when I got a call from one of the dealers a week later who said they had a Lunar incoming that someone backed out. I gave him a deposit over the phone and the truck arrived a week later. MSRP + tax.

In my area I was seeing $5k-$15k as the norm so I was thrilled to snag one for MSRP.

My suggestion, start making some calls and start speaking with people. Make a list of where and who you talked to and see what you can find out. You may have to wait a bit but I have faith you can find what you’re looking for.

Shit for that much I'd just paint your current truck and get a grille and some bypasses and you'll save $15k and have a more capable truck :D

Unless you’re going from 2wd to 4wd or changing cab styles it’s almost always a bad decision to get another truck that’s basically the same.

Incredible. Dealers only were asking $3k-$8k around here. It seems like most would get to MSRP in negotiations but most TRD Pros were selling before the truck was delivered or the day it was or the next day. I spoke to about 20 dealers and none had one last longer than 3-5 days on lot. I drove to the middle of nowhere to get mine and they had a white one sold in the back that someone was driving about 5 hrs to get. I drove 2.5 to get mine. They said they only get 3 a year (TRD Pros)

Most dealers said they could trade for white/black/MGM but not Lunar Rock. I was about to give up on LR and go white.

Yeah all in bound in my area have been reserved is what I've been hearing. And yeah I've been touching base with a lot of people. One dealership said they can maybe order me one but I don't think you can with the pros

You are looking six months earlier than last year. Wait. See what happens.

Not sure if the chip shortage has anything to do with it but all trucks are going to be in short demand it seems.

Between parts shortages, Covid slowing production, and the fact that this is the last year of this Gen, I’d bet money that availability is going to get harder and harder to come by.

Waiting to see what happens is probably not the best advice....Not in the current state of things. Any other year it would be sage advice but this is an entirely new beast we are dealing with.

You can order Pros, I ordered mine. Had to wait a little over 3 months for it to be delivered but I got the truck I wanted with the options I wanted for msrp.

Ordered Aug 22, picked it up Dec 18. You’re right things have changed but it won’t hurt anything to try.

The dealership can order so long as they have an available allocation. Beat bet is to find a couple dealerships with an available allocation who will sell at MSRP and take a refundable deposit. Give each a deposit and wait for the first to arrive and cancel the second. Better odds you’ll get one in Lunar. Any other color it’s less of a concern.

    Good luck.
