That and 5w30 for the win.

 

Not a 0-20 fan and this proves I’m not doing any harm running 5-30.

I was really expecting the numbers to be a little worse since it doesn’t like towing heavy with the 35s and stock gears - It was 2nd gear 4.3k rpm’s climbing steep grades for quite a few miles climbing and descending the mountains surrounding Globe, AZ. Never got hot but load was about maxed out and it was chugging.

I’ll probably test again at 200k or if I’m concerned about anything in the meantime.

Whatever you do don't post this over in the 3rd Gen oil analysis thread. Those guys have an engine that turns gasoline into metal.

 

What specific items are you most interested in when looking at something like this?
As in, what would be alarming numbers on which line item?

Wear Metals
Aluminum: Pistons, bearings. Clutch assembly and transmission components in motorcycles
Chromium: Rings, a trace element in steel
Iron: Cylinders, rotating shafts, the valve train, and any steel part sharing the oil. Transmission
shafts/gears and bearings in motorcycles
Copper: Brass or bronze parts, copper bushings, bearings, oil coolers
Lead: Bearings, leaded gas, fuel additives
Tin: Bearings, bronze parts, piston coating (rare)
Nickel: Trace element in steel, platings on some cylinder types
Silver: Bearings
Titanium: Some intake valves and connecting rods, aftermarket parts, oil additive

 

Anything near 10 or over on the wear metals would certainly be alarming. This also verifies you don’t have excessive fuel in the oil from a misfire/ignition problem and you don’t have coolant in the oil due to any head gasket issue.

The TBN essentially tells you how much life the oil had left.
