What fluid do i put in my 06 4.0 v6 Automatic tundra? It has 131k on it. I just bought it today not sure its history seems to be very well taken care of tho. Thinking about doing a fluid flush and change also changing the rear dif fluid

Sealed trans. So it’s a little more involved to do, but can be fine diy with a measuring container and a pump. The truck takes Toyota WS transmission fluid, so anything stating compatibility with that should be fine

With a sealed transmission is there a filter to replace? Ive seen the process of it being done in a video but don't recall seeing them replacing any filter

I have the dealership flush my 2006 trans every 100k miles or so, that's the only thing I use the dealership for.

You a smarter for this as the stealer has all the proper equipment.

The earlier first gens (2000-2002) are an easier diy project much like doing and oil change but much simpler.

You would be surprised how many dealers charge you for a flush, and do a drain and fill.

    True.

As you work in a dealership, this must frustrate you. A real total fluid change versus a drain and fill (1/3 change) is night and day labor wi$e.

I’ve trusted my dealer for years to do the right thing, but who knows? This is the main reason for me taking over my own maintenance. With that being said, the sealed transmissions (in later first gens) seems like a no brainer dealer job with all the exact temperature and special fuse box pins, etc needed to perform the job.

Seems like one could easily do diy on the sealed transmission very easy if the intervals were performed at shorter miles and it was the drain and fill type of changes (assuming the drain was measured correctly and the proper amount reinstalled).

I don't feel like its that hard from tutorials I've seen, but I kinda like learning this stuff anyways. I have a Milwaukee temp gun I can borrow and I bought a pump for the fluid. I'm also thinking about seeing if I can get Toyota tech stream set up on my computer so I can just read the temp from the sensors.

Now time-consuming yes, it takes me a while just to do an oil change so this will probably take me half a day.

Oh also had to order a measuring cup big enough to measure the old fluid.

No real need for a level check if you measure what comes out and put exactly that back in. Do it with the trans cold too.

I plan on using amsoil, signature series fuel effiecent synthetic atf fluid. It’s WS compatible. That’s what I used when I did a fluid flush/swap(tranny pump) on my ‘10 4runner.
