Hey I have 2005 Toyota Tundra limited with 202xxx miles on it. When I first got it I noticed it would sometimes, not very often, make this feeling like it would miss on a cylinder going up an incline but it wouldn’t do it often. As time goes on I notice it shifts funny from time to time and do the thing where it kinda feels like it trips of itself but doing more and that’s what’s leads me to think it’s transmission. It also down shifts a lot more than my 05 sequoia does on a down hill grade. I don’t know if any of this makes since just trying to get someone might have had or having the same issues.

    Thanks
    Mike

My 06 is also an aggressive downshifter. Not good for hypermiling.

my transmission feels like it surges on occasion and when cold, 4th to 5th will slip (flair) my next method of attack will be a new valve body and a sonnax accumulator piston. because im 90% sure its valve body line pressure loss thats causing my issues..

I also took it to a local mechanic and told him what was going and I asked him if I changed the fluids and the filter if it would act right after that and he told me that he has seen them where they get changed and the detergent in the new fluid cleans all the gunk off and will leave it sitting. He told me that the gunk maybe what’s holding it together right now. Thanks for the info if anyone else is having these problems and found a way to fix it I’d like to know. At this point I’m thinking about buying a junk yard trans and rebuilding it to go in my limited DC

I’d take it to a tranny shop. That trans should be good for way more than 200k miles.

Side note, my 07 Sequoia shifts really soft compared to my 06 Tundra, and doesn’t have aggressive down grade shifting like Tundra does. I think the Sequoia’s have a real mushy soft Lexyota shift profile for the soccer moms.

Am I wrong in thinking that it would be nuts to drop one of these transmissions off at a local shop? I would want some serious expertise shown on the front end before I would trust many people to work on something at that level.

my 05 sequoia shifts and steers really good a lot better than my tundra. I think I may take by a transmission shop see what they won’t hurt to ask at least. What transmission is in the double cab limited tundra?

I’d rather take it to a reputable trans shop than the dealer. Luckily I have a good one near by, they know a lot of ins and outs and what needs to be replaced / upgraded for longevity.

However, I’m at 280k and mine shifts like new.
