Hmmm, everyone else seems to be getting their Cats stolen meanwhile mine has started throwing the 0430 code.

It has come on three times now at about 100 mile intervals. No other codes, no misfiring, no blowing exhaust, no noticeable running issues. Clearing the code turns off the engine management light and it stays off for about 100 miles.

At 232k I'm thinking that my Cats are probably nearly at the end of their useful life. My question is has anyone experienced this pattern, what was the outcome if so and at about 900 miles per week am I likely to make it to Christmas without it going into limp mode and being forced into fitting new?

So po430 is indicating that bank 2 Cat is not functioning correctly . A scan tool that can check the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors can give you a better idea . It’s more than likely a cat but other things like exhaust leaks and bad oxygen sensors can give a faulty code . I haven’t seen one go into limp mode for that code but I don’t know everything .. yet

There are tests you can perform with a pressure gauge that threads to the O2 sensor bung, and will tell you if the cat is actually clogged. Try a scan tool first, if your upstream O2 readings are good, and the downstream ones are bad, maybe it's just a bad sensor. I've had a few go out around 200K, it's fairly normal. If your cat is clogged though there are some super cheap things you can try to unclog it.

Does your catalytic converter rattle at all, or is it solid sounding if you tap it with a wrench or something? They can sometimes break apart inside too, rattling would indicate that.
