So my 4HI light was blinking and would engage/disengage on it's own randomly but of course not for me when I wanted it to. I researched it and even spent $100 to get it professionally diagnosed to make sure. All of my research was confirmed (or so I thought) when I was told it was the transfer case actuator. I waited a few weeks for 1 from Japan on Ebay (Toyo part 1/3 cheaper than the Doorman at AutoZone and about 1/2 the dealer cost locally for a "genuine" Toyota part) and just replaced it this morning. Now the 4HI light doesn't blink unless I try sticking it into 4HI, and nothing else happens. I've spent over an hour searching threads with no luck and am frustrated beyond belief. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If it's doing it on it's own without you pushing the button it sounds like your wiring it funky. Replacing it may have jostled a chafed wire, making it worse.

Oh yeah, if you're ever in St Louis or surrounding area Do Not go to them. I went back and told them I had replaced it and am still having issues, their reply was "it's not the right part." I did my research and am 99.99% sure I got the correct part. It looks identical, part numbers matched the dealer part number, and it mated up perfectly.

The reason I didn't say 100% is because very few items in this world are delegated to 100% status IMHO. Death, taxes, and the presence of both good and evil in the world being amoung them.

Do you have any info you can provide for me to troubleshoot the electrical connections? I am admittedly virtually ignorant of electrical systems, but more than willing to try with guidance. Thank you.

I don't have the paperwork, but the part number on the Toyota part box is 36410-34015. My truck is the SR5 Crew? (4 full doors, 60/40 split bench seat in back) Cab 4x4 with the 4.7L V-8.

Your new part can be defective. There are a lot of counterfeite parts on eBay and Amazon. I have been bit by them also and avoid buying certain parts from those sites now. Sometimes you just need to pay the price and/or buy local.

This was what I was going to say after seeing paper work. I think the counterfeiting is more on the ebay side. I would use an online stealership or OEM part online dot com site for that part Chief.

Also, I believe your truck style is known as an Access Cab. The best of the body styles in the 1st Gen period.

How about a link to the ebay site you shopped so we can look at it?

It appears there are two different looking parts under the same part number when looking at diagrams.

Did your old part look just like the new part when matched up?

I don't, but I bet @BubbaW has something. What I said is merely the electrician in me speaking. I could be completely wrong.

Having followed since beginning and now that We or I could suspect the non OEM to be bad, I have to agree the initial issue could be elec but where would one start. Without knowing if Navy(go Army) wants to replace original actuator and start back from there, would I/We won’t to venture down the elec road.....the 2w/4h switch contacts could simply be flacky. There are few FSM steps that could be posted if that direction is chose

    :pccoffee:

    Solved - 4hi Light blinking, won't "disengage" 4hi and 4low work fine

    perhaps @jberry813 could drop by

You might get under there and unplug the connector and check voltage while some pushes the button.
