I have been chasing a problem that is makin me nutzo right about now with my 2002 Tundra a/c system. My evaporator developed a leak and I replaced it with a unit from NAPA.. not a big issue. What IS an issue though is my compressor has started doing something that looks like it's either "stalling out" or getting shut down by something after you drive it a few miles. I've had my shop pump everything down to check for leaks and fill the system back up, but, no change. A/C works great right up to when the compressor stops and the dashboard a/c button begins to flash. What I'm bothering you folks for is I need some way to GET A CLUE as to what exactly is happening to shut the compressor off? One of the mechanics mentioned some cars have a/c modules that may generate (and store hopefully) failure codes.. Anyone ever heard of this before? ANY help you folks might have would be GREATLY appreciated!! Happy Labor Day weekend!

Is the A/C light in the dash flashing at any point?

There's a grounding screw right here, on the front of the engine, that a lot of people fuck up. If it's loose, like you use the wrong length screw, the compressor won't ground properly and barf. It's the screw and wiring terminal ring with the "TIGHT" arrow here, and it needs to be securely pinching that terminal ring, and the plate, which has a bunch of "LOOSE" arrows pointing at it. Note the "134A" sticker on the side of the A/C compressor in this pic to figure out positioning.
