My 09 Tundra with 192,000 miles drives like a boat, shocks are shot. It's a regular street ride with no lift and I want to order from Rock A. All there shocks say without TRD offroad. I see that I have a TRD air box, but there are no badges identifying offroad or not.
How can I tell what I have so I don't order the wrong part. This site is great, I now know, I do not have STRUTS.

If it were me and I wanted to remain close to stock with little to no lift.. I’d go Bilstein 5100 set to the lowest setting.

Thanks Trooper2, I entered my VIN and found that it's just a plain Jane SR5. I think your right, someone might of added the TRD airbox.

The dealership can also verify by vin what you had stock, if going that route.

Like T-Rex said, the shocks will be the same despite what their disclaimer says.

+3, Bilstein 5100’s. Set on lowest setting in front if you want stock, middle if you want it leveled. I just priced these the other day. 4 shocks, new rear shock bushings, and new top hats for both sides of the front was right about $440 before shipping.

I plan on using the method in the video to replace the fronts, seems WAY safer than using the spring compressors since it’s all bolted in the spring can’t go anywhere if a failure happens, and no tools but a floor jack needed. Yes I know the video is a Tacoma. Process is the same except you need to unbolt the sway bar link from the lower for the Tundra.

My truck is stock too and I just replaced shocks all around with TRD Sport (Bilsteins; the red and blue ones). Got them as take-offs with only a couple hundred miles from this site, $200 total. Ptr13-34070 and ptr13-34071. Says they’re for 2WD only but that is incorrect and I have verified with Toyota. Couldn’t be happier with mine, especially considering the price.

I priced them both on RockAuto.com and on Amazon. RockAuto was just a tad bit more but I’ll probably end up ordering them from them anyways. All parts coming from one vendor makes stuff simple for me. Amazon links are below. Note you don’t necessarily need new top hats or rear bushings but I figured it can’t hurt while I’m already going through the effort, and my truck has 120k on it, so the bushings are probably pretty solid at this point.

Hopefully in the next few months I can pull the trigger. Convinced my wife already to let me do audio on the truck....so I have to let those purchases ride for a little bit :rofl:

I just had 5100s installed to replace a Ready Lift bracket kit; I was out the door for $1100 installed, with a diff drop and an alignment. Couldn’t be happier with the ride quality, much better than with the 4600s + brackets

OK, I see a push for leveling, +1, +2. My question, Do you level just for looks? Is this changing the geometry of the front end? Like I really know what I'm talking about. Should I stay or should I go.... I have a while to ponder this before the parts come in. Thoughts?

I'm going to put Bilstein 5100's on the middle setting on the front to level it out. Mainly doing it for looks. My Tundra is a pavement princess, there is no place around here for off roading.

I plan to level it (middle perch). Every truck is different but it should bring it within about 3/4 of an inch of the back stock, which looks darn near level, good enough for me. For mine it will probably be level because I have a toolbox in the bed with about 150-200 lbs of gear.

My understanding is no, it does not change the geometry of the front suspension because you are still working within the normal range of motion, just slight additional preload on the coil spring=lift.

Need to get an alignment afterwards regardless of stock height or leveled, the choice is yours :)

Also take into consideration if you tow or carry heavy loads often, the rake is there to level the truck under load so you will be a bit squatted if you’re level at no load. I personally don’t at this point and if I begin to tow something heavy on the regular, I’ll get airbags anyways.

Just leveling for looks and ground clearance. But if you set those shocks on the lowest setting it will be pretty much stock hight with a better shock.

I installed Bilstein 4600 series shocks all the way around on my '07 Tundra, the original shocks had 270k on them.
