So I went to meet a guy to sell my wheels today and as he was inspecting them he notice the inside lip on 2/4 wheels were pretty badly scraped. It also appears as if the balancing weights were ripped off those two wheels as well. At first I thought it might have been the calipers, but why would Toyota design wheels that rubbed the calipers? Upon further inspection, the calipers could not have rubbed that part of the wheel anyway. I also never heard any grinding or contact for the short time I had them on my truck. The only thing I can think of is when the dealer popped the bead to swap out the TPMS sensors when I traded in my truck, they must have scored the inside of the wheel with whatever machine they use to do that. I can't think of any possible way I could have done this type of damage myself. I thought I was done fighting with this dealer, but looks like I get to go back on Monday... :frusty:

when they re balanced they probably removed the old weights that's why you have tape residues.

I don't think they rebalanced them. They don't have to fully dismount the tire to swap the TMPS sensors--they just pop the bead and pull out the sensors. Discount Tire did the same for some other OEM takeoffs I bought for my "new" 2010--they said they don't have to rebalance. The other two wheels/tires don't have that damage there and there are balancing weights. I know the weights won't be in the same spot on each wheel, but they're still there.

I know it can be cleaned, I'm just saying there should be balancing weights there.

it is a possibility the weights were lost. It happens if the rim was not prepped well

It's not a HUGE deal to me as you can't really see that damage at all once the wheels are mounted, but it's just another freaking mess-up by this dealer. But I also understand why the buyer didn't want them today when he saw that. I don't think I'd pass on them for this, though.

That’s no big deal imo! As long as the other side looks good it’s all good to go!

Yeah, I agree with you on that. I definitely am not taking these back to the dealer to have them rebalanced, even if they do it for free. The less things of mine that they touch the better. If nobody wants to buy them I'll probably just take them to Discount Tire to have them rebalanced and put on my "new" 2010.
