    Remember, some here don't want scratches. Pretty much happens where I go. Not too many deserts here in CO, but you can always follow me up to the serious stuff for a "full size" truck. Try to keep up. I've been doing this for awhile. 45 years+. Before fancy dancy shocks/suspensions were even available. I'm old and know WTF I'm talking about. Lots of us still around to give lessons.

    Start with Nat Geo map 103. Meet me at Apex for Lesson #1. (Moab/Rubicon way over hyped. Nothing new. Boring. Something goes wrong there you got a thousand people/one weekend a year jeepers to help) Try something new. Like AK. No deserts there either. And no one to help you. Forget cell phone rescue. Don't buy into the "you have to spend thousands on rebuildable shocks and 6" lift crap suspensions to be a serious off roader" BS)

    Plenty of unknown (little used) trails here. A tight fit for a full size truck in many places, there is no way you are not going to get some bad scratches, but some serious wheeling. Some dead ends which is a bitch. Good thing is I think I found out most of the dead ends. (Fortunately when I still had my 89 Cherokee). Great camping/hunting spots. The harder it is to get to the better it is. No tourists up here and it's close to Denver. The previous pics I posted had zero vehicles in them. I saw the two 5280 Krawler Cherokees go past me at my grouse hunting spot. Got the usual surprised looks. That was it the whole day. Perfect.

    8.jpg Tundra took up the whole "road" going up and this is the widest part. Kept my drivers side high up on the left and still got too many scratches on the right side. (Notice the stump on the right I had to avoid?) Doing it again this weekend. Need to try some old routes I've been to see if my Tundra will fit. It will.

    It's ludicrous/down right silly to think the only place a full size truck can do serious 4 wheeling is in a freakin desert. LOL I'm planning on going to Drain, Oregon this spring to stay with my brother and to hook up with some of my high school wheeling buddies. Going to hit the old logging roads where we used to go all the time. There will be mud. We all had full sized trucks back then.Still do!! (That's what you drove if you worked in the logging business) SERIOUS off roading. No deserts nearby. Totally the opposite. Did we ever get stuck? Hell yes. So what? I'll have a Go Pro by then. Hell, I'll post a map of where we are going. Give me a few. Here:

    These are are old mining access roads from the 1870's. (Remember this area is near Central City, at one time the gold mining capital on the planet back then.) No fire vehicles can get up there. All aerial response. Although fire response vehicles could come up the west access to a point. There is an active claim/small mining operation going on near the pic of the clearing I posted. Didn't want to get pics of the operation.(Didn't want to get shot at.)

    The problem where I live is that the truck is wider than the trails. From my perspective, the first gen tacos and the hilux trucks are where it's at. :crapstorm:

    Jesus Matt, it's the Internet, not a dick, don't take it so hard. I guess your idea of "serious" off-roading and mine are significantly different. Driving down fire and hunting roads is great, and what I do for expo stuff with a trailer. Where I do my serious wheeling you don't make it past the gatekeeper without at least one locker and wheelbase is not your friend in the rocks. Width wasn't what I was getting at, it's the wheelbase. Happy to put my money where my mouth is if you wanna to try to keep up on Fordyce, Deer Valley, Slick Rock, Poison Spider, Gold Bar Rim, Golden Spike, Cliffhanger, Hell Hole...or anywhere you want.

    It's had the front two off (accidentally) from a good g-out in the desert. @Relentless was in the truck when it happened. Truck did fine, but I'm not trying to build a bigger version of my toy.

    I have the same problem but still find a way to make my way thru. There are times where I have to stop because it is a no go. My truck can make it most places up there but scratch city. The tree branches on each side in places is what is fracked.

    I realize this is the internet and I wish I had a locker by the way. The only vehicles I've ever owned without lockers were my Taco and Tundra. Not fire roads either. Be happy to give you the tour. I'm well aware of wheelbase. I've owned Jeeps. I realize that every truck and any vehicle for that matter has it's limitations. And wheeling isn't always about rocks. Sometimes there are no rocks. What do rocks have to do with everything?. Serious off roading is only in rocks now? I thought it was the desert? Which is it?? I've been in a lot of serious places wheeling in all kinds of terrain. Most likely before you were born. Oh, and they had no tricky scary sounding names. Meet with me and my buds in Oregon this spring at our no name wheeling places. It will be a lot of fun. Try to keep up with us. Not too many rocks though...

    Does your tundra have a vagina? I couldn't find one in mine... Maybe since yours has the vag it wanted to borrow all the sand on mine! Teamwork!

    When I started wheeling the only trucks out there were ranch rigs or power line maintenance rigs mostly all 3/4 tons. The rest were true jeeps. A PTO was not rare.
    Sounds like matluth has been down this road too.
