My new Kobalt (Better Built) Truck Box

I added a truck box for tool storage, and for things I don't want rubbing against the upholstery. My last three trucks have had toolboxes (a couple have had more than one as the chance to upgrade presented itself), so I added one to the Tundra. I've always wanted one that could be unlocked and opened from either site. This one has that feature, plus easy to grab handles. It looked to be exactly what I wanted. Then, I installed it. You can open and close from either side, but you have to go to the other side to make that side latch. No amount of adjusting will correct this. A toll free number is provided by Better Built in case you have questions. I called and a sweet young receptionist answered. I told her the problem and that multiple adjustments to the latch made no difference. Her answer was "Make sure the pins are horizontally aligned with the latch". I explained that they were, and again that multiple depth adjustments didn't help. Her answer was "Make sure the pins are horizontally aligned with the latch". After explaining a couple more times, and getting the same answer, probably from a sticky note on her desk, I politely thanked her and hung up. It's a decent box, but next time I'll definitely look around for a good Delta box. I bought this one so that I wouldn't have to, at times, walk around the truck to close the box. Now I have to walk around every time. This is the second worse box I've owned. Last place goes to the double lid box with rusted out hinges (it was free and saw a lot of use during that one summer) that leaked like a sieve. Just a cautionary tale in case anyone is looking for a truck box.

 

That sucks! If you want quality without paying an arm and a leg look into UWS boxes. Me and my dad have had em on all of our trucks and they are definitely made better than anything else youll find under $500.

 

It's too bad that Weatherguards are so god awful expensive. My buddy had one and it was a hell of a nice toolbox.

Minor, but important, correction.

 

Have or am using Delta, Knack, Jobbox, Kobalt, Weatherguard, and several I can't remember. Kobalt is the most cheaply built of any except maybe the plastic ones with which I have little experience.
Just put the Decked system in the tundra last weekend, am anxious to see how it will hold up.

 

Simple, return to Lowe's and purchase one worth having. I looked at those and the metal was a little thin. Went with a UWS box in gloss black. Bought a UWS a few years back for my Ranger and the black finish came off in a spot. Took it back and they gave me another one. The dealer wanted to debate it until he called UWS, they said to swap it out.

 

I thought about returning it, but I've had the box for about a month (I kept hoping I could get it working right) and I don't want to deal with their so called "customer service." It's fine on small items, but large items are a true hassle.
