I have no manual: Anybody have pics of fill and drain plugs for a front diff on a 2001 TRD?

I purchased a 2001 TRD with leveling kit. It came with 265/70r16 and I am happy with that, since stock was 245. I even ran 215's for a bit (KO2s are really strong tires and they gave the Subaru a superiority complex). I have checked transmission, transfer case and rear diff fluids after having changed the engine oil and having put in a Penzoil Platinum filter and Castrol Black Synthetic 5w30 from Costco. The tranny fluid is red and full, the transfer case fluid was nearly drinkable it was so clean. The rear diff fluid looks clean to me, but smells a bit (though I am much more familiar with the smell of burnt oil in a Subaru...stop booing). Just starting to get my hands dirty, but the front diff plugs must be under the steel skid plate? And, yes, I sold the Subaru and there are two Toyotas in the driveway and no other vehicles.

Oh, 265 is 31.5in, I believe, but only 350 million people on the planet of 7 Billion care about that

It's normal for differential fluid to smell bad.

This video discusses the front diff. Fast forward to around 12 minutes.

Have you registered your truck on toyota.com/owners yet? They usually have PDF versions of the owners manuals on there.

Yeah he covers both. The front diff is tough to reach and requires a tool I didn't have. My shop charged me only $20 to drain and fill. I supplied the fluid.

I tried to go to Toyota.com/owners, but since I bleed maple syrup, my IP address will not give me access. I will find a solve, though.

    Great help all

    Really all about this forum

First gen vol, that vid was helpful. I will look for new fill and drain plugs, though. Mine were all but rusted in place. The interiors of the plugs were in great shape, though.

Does Toyota, or anyone else make silly, yet cool, TRD branded plugs for these parts? If not...anyone on the forum work at a bolt factory...

You’ll need a 10mm allen socket on a 3/8” drive ratchet to remove the front diff plug. Make sure the allen hole is cleaned out with a wire brush prior to insertion as you want a nice tight fit. A breaker/cheater pipe/bar on the 3/8” racket helps with leverage.
