    Has anyone had to replace their rear end on the 2008 crewmax 5.7L sr5. my rear end is making a load clicking noise I was told it was my spider gear and that it would be better for me to replace the whole rear end. Because I have a 6 inch lift kit and some fuel contra 22x12 with -44 offset I want to install. I need advice

    Why not just get it rebuilt and throw in some 488 gears and limited slip?

    While swapping to 4:88 would be cool, it’ll cost ya a pretty penny since you gotta do front and rear. I would speculate +$2000 for both. Unless you’re smart and do bearing seals and other parts at the same time. If you’re currently prepared for that financially have at it.

    If you’re asking what’s best, finding a used 3rd member from a junkyard or breaker would be easiest and cheapest.

    Just because someone says it's your rear diff I would want to verify it. With a lift like that it could be something else. While things have changed I've had multiple '84 to '88 Toyotas that were use for playing in the mud. I can't tell you how hard the spider gears were worked out because of one tire spinning like crazy and the other stuck. I never had a spider gear fail that wasn't related to blowing out a seal and loosing all the oil. Even then the thing that went (on a work truck) was the ring and pinion teeth wore down to there was a ton of play and lots of noise.

    My wife had a '04 Trailblazer had the spider assembly fail. What happened is, even though the oil was at the proper level and looked like the day it came out of the jug, one of the spider gears fused itself to the shaft it would normally spin on. That caused the rear diff to act like it was locked up and when she was trying to turn in a paring lot she heard a bang but it still worked so she drove home. The cast steel carrier the ring gear bolts to and the spider gears sit inside of split in half. I think the gears were made by Dana (the same company that makes frames for Toyota) and the whole thing came as a set. It was quite easy to find so depending on who Toyota uses to make them it could be possible they are bad.
