    dashcam... more to come
I want to add a USB jack to my dash, but thinking I want it always powered on. Anyone have a great place to tap a non ignition power source?

    2018 SR5 DC

    Thanks in advance

I want to do the same thing. The radio has a constant power, but would be hard to splice. I think there is one in the steering column. I didn’t want a fuse adapter sticking out of the fuse box. So I think I’m going to end up running a wire straight from the battery with it’s own fuse.

Add a circuit at the interior fuse box is the way to do it.

I pulled a line from the battery while I was running cable for AUX light switches. Lots of threads about this.

I don't know why you would run single lines from the battery to power a 5 watt usb charger. If youre going to run a wire from the battery, you might as well run a thicker gauge to a new circuit block. That way when you want to add other devices later on, you don't have to run another small gauge wire from the battery through the firewall again.

But that's still the same as running it from the interior fuse box. There's already a few empty circuits that can be used. I really don't understand why you wouldn't just do that, unless you've already used them all.

Splicing into circuits that are already powering devices from the factory is bad practice. JMO

I would open the fuse cover and probe with a multi meter to find a 12v constant with the truck off. When you find one, ensure it isn't an essential circuit then use an "add a fuse".

Like I said, I was already pulling cable, so one more wire was no biggie. I was adding a fuse block under the hood, so technically that is where I pulled from.

I wouldn't suggest the OP do it that way

When i added mine, I ran a wire to the battery and added a fuse. I put a switch on it because I didnt want the LEDs lit all the time.
