Familiar with Auburn! I’m much more partial to the SW WA area and Gorge (Mt Adams, St Helens area) although the sound is beautiful.
We have a vacation home on the Kalama River (great Steelhead/Salmon runs) that is very hard to leave (few acres riverside next to an elevation change so it sounds amazing).
I love this area with a passion, just wish the people voted differently.

 

I'm with you. I was born and raised in Colorado. When I graduated from undergrad at Mines, I took a job out at Caterpillar in Illinois. At the time, I was interning at Lockheed Martin Astronautics in Denver. They gave me an offer for full-time employment, but then CAT came in and crushed the offer. Being young and stupid and just looking for the almighty $, I took the job in the flatlands. I remember a co-worker at Lockheed, an older gentleman, asked me if I had ever lived outside of Colorado (he knew how much of a mountain-freak I was). I told him no. He said: "you'll be back within two years". I just laughed and brushed it off. Low and behold, 18 months later, I was back in Colorado pursuing a Master's degree. I HATED not having mountains. Plus, out in the midwest, the sun disappears for weeks at a time. Eff that! After grad school when I went to go find a job, I drew a north-south line through Denver and only looked for jobs west of that line. I will never live outside of the mountains again unless something tragically goes wrong in my life.

But you're right, it is a beautiful area. Used to love long weekends at Kalaloch. I come back often to visit the Pacific northwest, usually in September. Just don't care to live there.

 

Just thought y’all should know. Where ever I lay my head at night is the best state. Just cause I’m there.

All of this trashing California on here is hilarious. The state is what YOU make of it. The government here sucks because the heavily populated bay and LA areas voted for it. But Gov Brown doesn't live in my house so what do I care. People say "Yeah, the schools are allowing this and that", but I raise my kids not the schools. "Guns this and that" yet I legally own one. "Taxes this and that", but what other state is going to pay me what I make? I'm not a teacher, but teachers in AZ are the worst paid in the country as an example. CA teachers make more than double what they make and that's probably true for many jobs. I'm less than an hour away from surf, snow, and desert. The Dodgers, Rams, Lakers, Kings...lots of stuff to do around here. I'm red, but why the heck would I want to leave this beautiful state just because of a governor in office? I'm sure you're proud of your state; good for you. I love where I live.

Everything you said is spot on, but at the same time, all this ribbing is done in good fun.
This thread just started bashing the text tax Cali is trying to implement and just evolved from there as every damn thread on here does. Most threads end up getting hijacked anyways.
We all love where we live, some more than others. We all know Cali has their perks, just like any other state does.

You’ll learn fairly quick we all take jabs at each other and other things. Look at ColoradoTJ, dude doesn’t have a Tundra anymore. He went with a GMC and we rag him about it, but doesn’t mean he isn’t a part of this family (he’s a freaking mod now)
Advice for this site? Get some thick skin and don’t take anything personal.

 

It’s OK because it’s an HD and logical. Plus your knowledge is pretty irreplaceable around here.

I’m in OR all the time and hate refueling there. It’s so Fing annoying! My business partners that ride along with me to lunch etc make fun of me because I refuel in WA and have to do it myself.
They thinks it’s the cats meow, I’m always like - uh no. Fuck that. I’m too impatient to wait on some attendant to run around to 12 different cars before filling up my tank.
