I wont be surprised if we get taxed for driving more than 10 miles next.

Too late. Oregon, and more specifically the Portland area, is littered with California transplants and their "way of life".

Disclaimer: Of course not all Californians are like this.

Don't you? Ever look into the taxes you pay to drive? I don't just mean those obvious ones tacked on at the pump; check your vehicle purchase paperwork, registration, license fees, insurance rates, parking (don't even think about opening a small business in some areas; you'll get smacked in the face with "traffic impact fees" so fast)... you're taxed thru the nose before you even kick over the engine.

That's why I'm in Colorado. We have TABOR. We have a choice. Taxes can't be legislated here and can't be mandated at the municipal level. All taxes come to a vote by the residents. We chose to have control no matter what party controls the CO state legislature. "fees" imposed is a another story....

Of course I see all of those unnecessary stuff, but I mean taxed for driving as in, reporting the mileage maybe a monthly basis crap so it can get all written up.

No illusion. We vote yea or nay on taxes here. Reality. We have a direct voice on where and what our tax revenues are spent. Come to CO and see for yourself.

I have a friend who writes programs for the state of California. He happens to be working on a new program for assessing taxes. The requirements given were simple. We want to be able to tax EVERYTHING. The example that was given was that if you order a burger from McDonalds, we want to know how much grease escaped into the air and want to tax that.

There's a reason why California has had the money to build more reservoirs for 15 years and hasn't started a single one. Governor Brown just enacted a restriction of 55 gallons of water per person per day. This is officially the start of taxing water...

I think it sucks being lumped in and generalized with the wimp Californians. Yes I love it here. The weather is great, there are so many things to do and a lot of opportunities. Except for the politicians and their policies along with oversensitive pussies. This is a great place to live. A lot of you sure hate us just because we are from here. We’re not all like that. I think we collected a lot of wussies and weirdos from the other states. I was born and raised here and have a complete different perspective and point of view than what the entire country thinks of us. I’m sure every state has some weird stupid laws and people. So when I say it’s hard to leave. It’s because I do love it here as well as all of my family is here. It’s hard to just pick up and leave and try to fit in somewhere else. They hear you’re from California and automatically assume what they think you are. I lived in Nebraska for a year in high school. Everyone thought I was either in a gang or I was a burn out surfer. I’ll stop here.

Great discussion so far. Make sure you state facts, not feelings.

Political references are a against the site rules.

For example, this is a political post that normally gets a vacation or thread shut down:

However, I think this thread can be saved.

Kali is a beautiful state. I really like the northeast part of the state the best. Alturas and beyond. Surprise Valley next to Nevada border and runs up towards Oregon. Big ass bucks. Outstanding fishing. Ranch and rim rock country and the great people that live there!

Ah....the burned out surfer thing.....? heh...heh.

That’s exactly why I don’t tell people I’m from Portland Oregon (the closest big city to us). I just say a rural town in WA state LOL.
From what I understand, most think Portlanders are tree hugging, stinky, weird hippies. (I like to cut trees down, take showers every day, and I believe we are free because of war).
Can’t do much to change that unfortunately.

The problem with us when we go to other states is that we're so used to being activists about what effects us (i.e. voting, "it's all about me"), and we lose our ability to think about how we are effecting others by pushing our beliefs onto them. That sums up why everyone dislikes Californians moving in.

More than once, since moving to AZ, I've had to defend myself. Usually saying "I escaped" with a laugh saves the conversation.

We loved it there too, for all reasons you mention and more. Geographically its a wonderful place to live, and by and large the people are some of the most warm and welcoming we've ever run into through our travels. Trouble is, those people are usually too busy living their lives, working their asses off to have time and/or money enough to combat the constant onslaught. Its a very nasty cycle.

Leaving was one of the hardest things we've done. But there comes a time where enough is enough; watching our hard earned money squandered, with nothing but the promise of it getting worse was the final straw.

Born in Corpus Christi myself. I like mountains and the way things are looking Texas is headed down that purple road fast like what happened to CO. No illusions here. Regarding the recent bs gun laws....Most county sheriff's statewide are not enforcing them and no police officers I know here in Aurora do either.

There is a big perception that where Kali's go that they try to emulate the state that they left for those same reasons. Isn't this happening in CO, NV, AZ, maybe others?

Hell, I can’t wait to bail on CO, for the same reasons I bailed on CA.

Running out of options for a warm retreat though. TX is out for me, and probably AZ, which sucks. NE AZ is amazing.

Might be on a boat someplace. Lol.
