I originally ordered the TRD pro lights but decided to try and do it myself. Bought some clear reflectors from klearz.com. A few flat heads, paint and the Morimoto glue thing from Amazon. Watched a tutorial on YouTube by lightwerkz. This took all day but worth it! That looks amazing, in the process of doing mine. Bought the Klearz reflectors. Perfect accent to the mono-chromatic look.

    Nice job!

Any tips that you think would be helpful?

Preheat 240F 20min. I watched the guides by lightwerkz, specifically the civic open and close light, then there was also one on a tundra 2016 light with no commentary. I watched the tundra over and over while waiting for the cold glue tools from China. Flat heads, clamps and expanding pliers are a must. I didn’t really use the cold glue tools they recommended. The annoying part was removing the permaseal from the lens.

Yes I opened the lights, changed the reflectors and painted the outer chrome parts black. They were originally the platinum 18 lights.

They came out awesome! Love the look man! Was planning on swapping for the trd pro lights myself.. but those look even better. Not sure if I have the patience or the nerve to stick my lights in the oven

Looks sweet! So you bought the cold glue tools and didn't even end up using them - too funny lol. Glad you didn't need them :D

And yes, getting all the glue out of the channels and lenses takes forever. But as you know, it's crucial to giving you the best chance for no moisture issues after resealing.

Thanks for the tips, especially on the cold glue tools. Ive been on the fence with that part. I have a few sets of headlights open before, none with permaseal and I know its a PITA.

Looks like the expanding pliers are the key. What paint did you use?

    Any more close up pics?

Thanks again, I have had my Klearz defectors in a box since I got my 18" LED lights, been fighting with starting this project.

Agree, expanding pliers are really clutch to open these lights. While they're a PITA, the Tundra lights are manageable as far as permasealed headlights go (at least the 2014-17; I haven't opened up a set of 18s - yet). I was surprised to hear that the OP didn't really use the cold glue tools...which is cool because I don't have a set and I'm not waiting to alibaba shipping lol. Lightwerkz sells a set of cold glue tools and they're located in NJ. But I've opening 4 or 5 sets of the permasealed 2014-17 lights without them. Definitely expanding pliers FTW though.

Whats the best source for the expanding pliers?

They are on the truck now but I can take some pics ASAP. The paint was just a 2 in 1 primer/paint gloss black from Home Depot. Multipurpose.

Did you use the OEM sealant like they did in the Honda video?

I did something similar on my '05 Tacoma and was a bit nervous about putting the lamp housing in the oven. Actually those parts are pretty heat tolerant. As long as you get it just hot enough to soften the sealer you'll be good. I am not sure what the Morimoto stuff is but I used a high quality butyl rubber sealer on mine and it worked perfectly. It's the same stuff they use on the big glass panes on multi-story buildings.

Nice job Newguy! that looks good!
