Well, first note: the nut size on the grease zerks supplied with the Camburg UCAs is off. Instructions say 1/4" but closest is 3/8" with slop.

 

How far have you gotten?

 

Drivers side UCA ready to go on. Having to cut off the old shock as the bottom bolt is rusted on. Couldn't budge it.

 

Having a hard time finding a ball joint tool that will fit. Seems to be a bit different than a "US" vehicle.

 

For the uca?

 

No, for the spindle ball joint. (Same one? I'm new, remember ). Was able to find a master ball joint kit that I think will work fixing to try it.

Also gotta find a new bolt for the driver's UCA, it was bent. I think it's a 14mm and real long, can I just find one at a hardware store?

Gotta go to the stealership or maybe an off-road shop. You are deep into this. Not sure if the hardware store will carry this. Let us knowhow it goes and post up pics.

 

This UCA to spindle bolt and locking nut are insanely tight. It says take it to 125/135 ft/lbs but I think we are at that without it being tight.

Here's some random photos of the process. Gonna have to get a new UCA bolt probably from @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc, hopefully they can have it here fast.

 

Just saw this. I'll check around tomorrow with dealers and the local shop, if not I'll be ordering from Wheelers. Luckily I work for myself and can afford to take a couple days off.

Oh, haha! Gotcha. Actually got to put some new wells in mine, they are in bad shape.

 

Well, the local dealership says they have a UCA swivel bolt for $7. Hopefully it's the right one.

 

Well, the dealer thought I said "Tacoma" on the phone. I went ahead and had them order two and they should be here tomorrow. So far the passenger front side is done, the driver front side is waiting on the bolt and I'm getting ready to start on the rear. The plan is to take my wheels in this afternoon and have them take the 265s off and mount the 285s. Before I do that I'm going to try removing the Plasti-dip with kerosene. That and WD40 is what I've found on Google. After I get it all back together I'll take it to my mechanic (my cousin) at the local shop to have him do the brake lines and rotors, pads, drums, and alignment.

 

So it's in the shop getting alignment and brake work. Icon claims that full extension on the shocks is 2.1" of thread above the adjustment but I think the front looks squatty. Also having rub at full turn so I may need to get wheels with less backspace.

 

Ok, how do I fix this?

 

So I'm not very happy with Icon right now. I also feel that @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc could have this information on their page. Apparently because I have a V8 DC (pretty standard truck, right?) I need 14" 700lb coils but it ships with 13" 650lb ones. So now not only will I have to buy new coils, I will also have to spend the time and money to replace the coils and get another alignment. Or I could have paid an extra $100 to have them shipped that way. I may just be blind but I can't find any mention of this on either web page.

I can work through it, just not happy about it. Pretty much they are using specs for I guess a V6 single cab Tundra. When was the last time you saw one of those?

I don't really want to give Icon any more business right now, so what coils should I get. Kings?

 

I’ll let the experts on here recommend something, as I just have the OEM coils and am not familiar with the compatibility of all things.

Yeah, Icon should probably check back into the testing of this and figure out a better solution with either a taller or stouter coil or both. The only application they will lift properly is the rarest and lightest 99-06' Tundra trucks.
If you need those 700 lb coils @FlightSimGuy , we will get you taken care of with a huge discount to help out here.

 

Agreed. I would have gladly paid for the correct coils. It seems like it could just be an option depending on your vehicle instead of making it sound like one size fits all.
