When Tonka Toys were made of 16 gauge steel, and it took a lot of firecrackers to destroy them.

Having to hang out in the woods or on the water when you were ditching school because the truancy officer was out looking for kids ditching school.

My bud and I were 10. We'd go to the Yoncalla Rodeo with burlap sacks and fill them up with 1cent deposit beer stubbies. Hundreds...All day sleuthing. Jack pot! Cards, comics, soda, candy.

In our district its impossible. I get a text, an email and both land line and cell phone call. I shit you not! I almost feel sorry for the kids.
So when they ditch it's usually to hang out with me at the range.

You remember the horrible sound of fingernails on a chalkboard, or the high-pitched squeak the chalk would occasionally make when the teacher got a little too frantic.

We used to have a teacher that would throw chalkboard erasers at those who fell asleep. She probably would be fired in today's pansy world. I thought it was awesome - you got to have a little chalk badge of shame for a while imprinted on your clothes shaped like an eraser.

So true. My granddaughters are pretty much on lockdown once at school. School is pretty good communicating with parents if something is amiss. Minor sniffles gets me a call.

I think most of them I saw were outside too. Back in the day folks would certainly scold me if I tried to mess with those machines. Also my Dad's butt whoopins sucked back then. Wasn't worth gettin caught..
