Ford released new specs for the 2017 F150 EcoBoost V6
Looks like
375HP
470TQ AND a 10-speed automatic transmission (built by both GM and Ford)

And here we are 10 years later with only a bigger gas tank.

I'm sure that ford will be able to achieve 20MPG no problem.
Before you all start repeating the same thing "I didn't by a truck for the gas mileage" or "we'll see how long before the ford blows up or transmission explodes". I'm just saying it's nice to see someone actually making changes to improve its customers driving experience. Hopefully we'll have something presentable for 2017. My 07 (145,000 miles) is solid but I wouldn't mind a new crewmax with 6.5 ft bed, a v8 with a turbo would be nice. An 8 speed transmission and make it 500lb lighter.

Anybody agree? Or am I asking for too much?

 

I've commented in a couple threads that my truck is capable of 20mpg. I think that engines are only going to get smaller. Toyota will come out with their next truck eventually, we all must remain patient.

Well....interesting assumption..."it's nice to see someone actually making changes to improve its customers driving experience." I know someone must be tolerating the experience, but I am not convinced yet. My 2014 Chevy Silverado was supposed to get 16/23 mpg (ave. 19) with a 6 speed transmission, VVT and AFM. It was a terrible driving experience as the transmission, VVT and AFM hunted for the correct combination. And it hesitated badly when attempting to downshift to pass, or just go up a hill. So, I can't imagine how bad it would be with a 10 speed transmission. Had it for 2 ½ years and best I got was 18+ on one trip, where the speed limit averaged 65 mph for the 6 hour roundtrip. Most of the time, I only got 15-16 mpg anyway. And yes, I keep the automatic A/C on all of the time. Just went on a trip with the Tundra and got 16 mpg doing 80 mph average. Traded the Silverado for my Tundra and really love the driving experience. Not sure what you're looking for. I'm very skeptical...By the way, I don't think any of these trucks are going to get great mileage when the speed limits are 80 and 85 like they are here in Texas, IMO...

 

I may be weird, but I chose the Tundra because it wasn't the latest and greatest. Ford's stuff may end up really lasting a long time, but history is against them. I honestly do applaud them for taking risks and pushing the envelope, but for someone like me who only can afford 1 truck and keep it for a long time, Toyota got my money.
For the same reasons though, I would buy a Focus ST over a Corolla S any day of the week.

 

My kid is sponsored by Ford now. He just picked up a new F350 Diesel with all kinds of options. I've never been a ford fan but I have to say, I was very impressed. He tows a heavy boat about 40K miles a year. He's been driving a 2500 Duramax. He's been through two of them and neither one held up very well. I'm anxious to see how this ford holds up.

 

I don't understand why all these companies like to keep their customers informed. And Toyota just sits quietly, not for a year or 2, but for 10?
With all the hauling and offroading I've done with this truck, i believe it is the best truck hands down. My dads 11 Silverado with 5.3 is exactly like a car but with a bed, wayyy too delicate for my taste, but I have averaged 20 MPG on the way to vegas at 70-75MPH. Even the new 6.2L in the GM's achieve more HP/TQ and MPG than our trucks.
But Toyota has a chance to completely take over like it did in 2007.
And because its a Toyota i'm sure most people don't mind purchasing the 1st year model run. (I did and have no regrets)

I believe they wont release any information until at least the State Fair of Texas which i believe is in September?

 

I think a small V8 with a turbo would be badass. Or a supercharger. Do it Toyota, do it!

If history has taught us anything, the new motor will be a something that has been used for years in the Lexus line. I'm not real knowledgeable with their engines, but does anyone have an educated guess?

I thank Toyota needs to come out with a 3/4 ton. I'll stick with the one I got on till then.

 

They also need a legitimate remote start system.
I feel like the competition offers much more for the same price of the Tundra, so hopefully we'll see some nice improvements.

I dont know about the 1/2 diesel, Nissan is flopping BIG TIME on that one, mainly because it costs the same as a 3/4 Ton and is much less capable.
Now if they were to do a 3/4 Ton Tundra im sure it would be a head turner. The only problem would be that 1st generation of 3/4 Ton tundras, with emissions and all that it might take a while to perfect

 

I saw that Ford is going to have a Diesel option. 3.0L Turbo. If Tundra sells out like Nissan did and uses Dodge's diesel I will be very disappointed.

Hey it's all in good fun. Those Ford boys are probably joking about how often we have to untangle panties from our wiper blades. In fact here's a few cool features I hear the new Ford F150 is going to have.

*Magnetic Rear Bumper, so it can catch the parts as they fall off
*Heated Tailgate & Bumper to keep your hands warm when you're pushing it home or uphill.
*Cupholders built into rear bumper - for same reason
*Even thinner aluminum body so you can tear your way out by hand if you get locked in the truck.

And remember the 5.7L was a totally brand new engine for Toyota in 2007. An Atkinson V8 is certainly a very good possibility.

 

100% in agreement. Over the years I've owned all the big company's 1/2 tons or HDs- still own and daily drive my Dodge 2500 CTD- but never a Toyota truck. Most have been OK, but none have been great. Always nagging repairs and sometimes nasty massive repair bills... My wife's vehicles have been Toyotas for the last 17ish years and they have been flawless. Maintanence only over all that time. Not a single major repair, even tho we drive our vehicles for a long time and into the high mileage.

If my 2016 Tundra works out like our Toyota cars have, the Big Three will never sell me another truck...

I'm betting same 5.7, lower compression a bit and add a turbo....and a REAL remote starter.
