I've been throwing around the idea of adding a console vault to make things a little more secure in my '14 CM. It would be nice if Toyota would add a lock mechanism to the center console.
Does anyone here have one in their truck? What are your thoughts? This is the model I've been considering.

I was looking at the same one, but for me the limitation of cumbersome access while driving is what has deterred me. But if I lived in an area where that was needed for whatever reason, looks like a good investment to me.

I use a Tuffy enclosure and am still able to put a Salex organizer tray on top of it.. I wanted to have access to normal stuff without having to open the safe and have prying eyes see what's in it.

Currently running this console safe. So far so good. Half safe and half normal center console.

Had this in my cart the last time eBay had their 15% off coupon. Didn’t pull the trigger but it’s on the list. I really like the half safe/half stow crap.

Thought about this the past year and my friend had his Jeep broken into a couple of weeks ago. The perp busted the rear window, bypassed the alarm, cracked open everything with a crowbar and took out the head unit cutting the wires on the vehicle side! It was costly to fix because all the electrical harnesses were gone. He was told it’s better to leave consoles unlocked because a thief will find a way and cause destruction, whether they get into the safe or not damaging the unit/key mechanism and interior trims.

We can’t carry guns in our vehicles anyway so I skipped getting a safe. And my glove box is unlocked, just the doors are locked. Nothing of real value in there and if they steal my HU, so be it.

However, a lot of members here do like these safes.

If they want it they will get in. It’s a shame people will do that.
My Jeep ran with the top and doors off every chance I got so I added a trunk lid for the rear to secure the recovery gear.
I had a lock box under the seat for securing my carry if I was going someplace not allowed but it didn’t stay in there overnight.

Terrible, he didn’t even have a nice HU, older and glitchy, probably $50 on Craigslist. He lives near downtown so a lot creeps around at night. I’d be pissed, cut all the wires like that.

I have a locked DiamondBack, big toolbox inside is where I keep stuff that I might lock up inside the cab. Again, nothing in there that can’t be replaced or valuable.

I cannot seem to find the half safe for 2008 model tundra. Locker down does not have them on their website. Anyone know what company has them?

I can't find any safe for my 2002 Tundra, does anyone know of one that will fit? Or how about a center console from another vehicle that I can swap out to put a safe in?

I went with the Lock’er Down half console safe and I couldn’t be happier. It’s a little more spendy, but worth it in my opinion so you can keep half of your console for other storage. 9FCB1C07-2366-4C18-9EC0-0019E8886F89.jpgC890B457-CF00-4E73-B20F-0DEFA40DBF3F.jpg

The problem with ^ this one is, you can't quickly store retrieve anything (ponytail holders for the women in your life; gas receipts; business cards) because you have to unlock to access every time.
    This one is much better.
Definitely more convenient than the full console vault.

Hmmn. Will the 3rd gen vaults not fit a 2nd gen? @Roman could probably let us know if the console sizes are different, 2nd vs. 3rd gen...?
I haven't read about anyone on here having this, but it looks right to me:

Thanks Sunnier, but that is the only thing I found and that is not the center console I have. I believe that is a DC console and I have an AT, or it may be the other way around. Anyway I did order this one last year and it didn't fit. I emailed them and they did confirm they did not have one that fit my console.

I sent a message to the Lock'er Down company on their site to see if they have that half console available in my size or if they do custom work. I would prefer that, does anyone have the physical dimensions of that safe available?

If you don't mind, please update us with whatever you find out. I have a 2002 Limited access cab (suicide doors, 6' bed) and would be interested. Just looking at the pic, I'd have guessed this would work. Thanks for the warning that it may not.

I have the console vault with 4 digit combo. I can open it with two swipes of my thumb and without looking.

I've seen that's a common trend with wrangler drivers. They assume a thief will do whatever it takes so they don't bother with doors or windows. Especially if they have a soft top they leave their doors unlocked so they don't cut the plastic windows.

Just the other day I parked next to a 4 door wrangler with all the doors missing. Inside in clear view was a state Park pass worth $50 among other items. I don't get it.

I usually don't park in areas where my truck is sitting too long. If they want to try a smash and grab, they will give up after they get to the safe because it's going to take too long and someone will see them. They'll just move on to the next. Usually they just look for unlocked doors, or wranglers.
