Rear Lift - Shackles or Blocks?

?

To go along with Bilstein 6112's in front at 2.5", blocks or shackles to go w/ 5160's?

    Doing the 5160's in the rear; 4Wheel Parts recommends 1" blocks while Toytec recommends shackles. The rear lift goes along with 6112's in front at 2.5". My truck is mainly on the road, occasional snow, once a year power line trek, once a year on the beach.

    Put shackles on with newly greased polybushings and the ride will improve. CB or Toytec both good but the latter will allow more clearance for a bigger spare tire if you go that route all 5.

    Pick your poison, splitting hairs. I would support Toytec before 4WP any day, they sell both.

    I have blocks one inch but did not like the ride they have been on for about 5 months now and going to remove them in the next week or so with some coachbuilder +2

    Serious question, so the oe bushings are replaced with greased poly bushings. They need to be greased as maintenance, how do you with shackles do this? Do they have greasable through bolts? Do you have to disassemble? Or just let them eventually bind and squeak? I really just don’t know and curious.

    The only shackle I know that has a zerk is the OME shackles.
    It's always good to grease the Poly bushings from time to time. I just wouldn't cake it on there or in unnecessary areas(first time I thought greasing everything that touched was the way to go, but ended giving me more squeaks and more bs to clean) . The only maintenance I do on the rear bushings is remove the bolt, grease the inner sleeves/inner bushings. Kinda like the Poly UCA bushing, just with no zerk fitting.

    Thank you, very helpfull. So shackles require maintenance. Learned the same lesson with bushings. On UCA bushings I remove the zerk for a plug, and I have a syringe/hose/needle setup that easily fills the cavity. Purges nicely for a day or 2 and good to go. Can’t loosen the bolt and re-torque every time you grease, that bolt is good for maybe 4-5 re-torques imo.

    Bushings They might only work with the ome leaf packs for the tundra- not so sure.

    I ran the bushing and shackle my 1st gen Tacoma with custom Alcan leaf packs. Bushing worked fine.

    Nice! Yeah that uca bolt can get loose. I bought an extra set for emergency.

    I went with a block becuase I had no idea what a shackle was comming from the Tacoma scene. I regret it and plan on moving to shackles.

    Angle doesn't change at least a very minimal change.
    Your differential will be tilted. So the fluid will not be sitting level inside.
    $30 isn't bad if it gives you peace of mind for your axle angle.

    I did the 1.9” and ride is about like stock but less bouncy. I regret not doing the 2.5” for the added lift. I’m about to put CB +2 shackles on.

    Bilstein 6112, 5160, Coachbuilder 1” shackle lift, Wildpeak A3’s, LED backup, Maxiplus mats, Bak Rollover Mx4, BedRug, Westin HD Headache Rack. Westin HD Brush Guard, Spidertrax 1.5 spacers. TRD Brakes. Headlight Revolution LED. TRD rear Torsion Bar. Dirty Deeds 10 inch Stainless. TRD Pro Grill. Bushwhacker Pocket Flares. Baja Designs Combo Driving/Fog lights.
    I have the 6112’s at 1.9 and like the lift. The ride feels/ felt (with the level and 5160’s in the back) only a tad stiffer to me but the feel from the cabin was vastly different. I love it. Then I went with the 1 inch block in the rear which gave me a slight rake. The ride is definitely stiffer. I wish I had gone with shackles or kept it level for a while longer after reading more posts. I feel the look is good but the ride brought me back to see what others think. I plan to take out the blocks and go with shackles at some point.

    Don't. Your changing the diff angle, the angle the driveline is in relation to the diff. Pick your point of failure. Would you rather put wear on cv joints or your diff?
