Are Tundras supposed to have plastic shields covering the oil pan?? I could have sworn i saw the Toyota tech dealer pull something out last oil change. Maybe he did not put it back. Unless he took out the skid plate to change the Oil filter.

There is an oil plate access cover that’s metal. Maybe you saw that?
Either way, I’d look under your rig.
You don’t want to end up like my wife - driving down the freeway 3 minutes after leaving the Fabulous Nissan dealership, to have her skid plate fall off on the freeway.
Gotta love Nissan’s attention to detail.

It was the skid plate which is sheet metal. Nothing to worry about.

I've seen a plastic skid plate on a Tundra. much lighter & easier to remove and enough protection if you are not doing major off-roading ...
fuel tank skid plate is plastic on all Tundras ... Many other cars and small SUV have the plastic ones. I posted a thread about it. Can't remember is anyone knew where to buy one. Search the threads with that topic. I will add the link if I find it.

Plastic skid plate protecting gas tanks is a good idea, and if you are in cold climates it protects against all the slushy salty snow. Obviously not as good as steel but great idea. Where do you get them?

Toyota must sell them because all trd off-road trucks come with plastic gas tank skid plate. The engine skid plate is steel.
the gas tank itself is plastic so it won't rust. I think the skid plate is more for preventing fuel tank puncture, etc.

I’d venture a guess the gas tank one is plastic to prevent sparks in the event it contacts the pavement at speed during a wreck.
