Yesterday, the extremely high winds that we had in Indianapolis blew my attic access cover down when my wife opened the garage door open. You can actually see the attic opening in the reflection of my shattered windshield. It hit so hard that there are tiny shards of glass INSIDE the cab of my truck. The access cover also bounced off of the hood and messed up the paint.

The guy came out today to replace it and I learned for the first time that the SR5 actually has a heating element integrated into the windshield. Of course, he had brought with him the windshield that didn't have the heating element so I'll be another day without my ride.

Fook!! That sucks man. The garage is the last place you think it’s going to get a broken windshield.

I bet he will be looking at that access door every time he pulls into the garage from now on. Please don’t fall please don’t fall please don’t fall.

I'm guessing that opening the garage door created some kind vacuum effect. I had actually rigged a latching mechanism with a 2×4 running perpendicular to the opening but the wind was so strong that it loosened itself enough to allow the cover to fall down.

The paint is dull and scuffed in several different spots but no dents. The windshield took the brunt of the impact. Hopefully the spots will buff out with a little TLC.

    Thanks man.

That was my initial reaction too. It took a lot of maneuvering to get it to fit it in the garage when I bought it. It isn't uncommon to have wind and hail damage to vehicles parked outside so I wanted it to stay protected. God laughs at my plans.

You are 100% on point. I'll have to reevaluate my latch ideas ASAP. Until then I'm keeping the access cover OFF.
