Im looking to upgrade from a 95 tacoma to a newer tundra. Found a 2006 v8 4x4 limited with 148k on the odometer. I have yet to see a report on the maintenance done, and i'm bringing it into a mechanic for a 2nd opinion. But Im wondering if anyone has any new tundra buyers advice. body is one of the cleanest I'm looking at, frame looks solid, sun roof, leather interior, tow package, ect. dealers asking $16,000, going to see if I can talk him down.

For a dealer that isn't bad. I paid 14.5 for my 06 DC TRD 4x4 with 134k last year (private party). It came with a shell and methods/285's. I felt like I got a good deal due to my area (Bay Area) and I had to go down to LA to get it. I would say $15-15.5 out the door would be a good deal for a dealer granted it checks out.

    Where are you located?

yep bank account is running low from it..
    Talk him down...

Since your in the salt states look at the frame for rust and cross member beyond the paint.. paint can hide damage to do rust..

Also if there is no record of when the timing belt and water pump was changed, more money comes off.. that engine is a interference engine.. don't let the belt break bad things will happen. ..

I would suggest talking down a bit and like Mike said, check for when the timing belt and water pump were done and for that since you're up north. I paid $11000 for a 2006 DC 2WD TRD with 134k in February. I understand limiteds and 4x4 with more options but I don't see $5000 worth of options with more miles

I wouldn't pay more than 10k. I got my fully loaded 07 DC Limited with 150k for 17k OTD. Shop around.

Subd. I have the same exact question. 4WD's are pretty scarce in my area and the asking price is around 20K, usually.

In Denver, the going rate for 2005-2006 4 doors/crew cabs run around $18-20k. Mileage seems to be around 120-150k on average. I bet someplace in the south-east they are dirt cheap. If you are willing to fly, price can go down.

Like everyone said, of course try to talk him down. I just got one from CL in Charlotte NC. But was looking at another one in Goldsboro, similar to what you are describing. I walked away at $14500, he was at $15,500. Very clean 2 owner, Limited, 4x4, no leather.

Ive been searching for 1-2 months. Southeastern NC, and SC. Theres not a ton out there, double cab 4x4s in good condition. I got lucky and looked at CL on a Sunday night, when owner had just posted it. Got there Wednesday and bought it. He had 3 others in line. It has 51K on odometer, 1 owner. I paid $18500. SR5, 4x4, double cab, no leather.

I recently went through this. I'd been shopping for a 4x4 first gen for about a year in central California. All the 'decent' ones were in LA or in the Bay Area....typical prices for '03-'06's were 9K or less for trucks with about 200,ooo miles on the clock, and 12-18k for trucks with about 120-170k on the clock. I first shopped double cabs, then realized, that fome, they were too long/bulky, as I off-road quite a bit. I had pretty much given up when I found an '04 4x4 Limited double cab with 90,000 miles for 16k at a used car dealer 4 miles from my house! The truck was mint, with all the options. No service history, but really nice. I figured I would buy it. The very next day, an '05 4x4 TRD AC with 61k miles popped up on Craigslist, also a local truck. Private seller. I checked it out and bought it on the spot for 15k. Towing package, limited slip, HD cooling and starting, etc. Not a limited, but an always-garaged cream-puff. I've been a Toyota truck guy for almost 30 years, and I've NEVER had one with less than 100k on the clock!! I ended up selling some stuff that came with the truck for $400, so I got a great deal. But it took a TON of looking and a ton of patience. I almost bought a new Tundra out of frustration, but could not talk myself into liking the gothic styling or the huge size. I told a close friend about the cherry Limited at the dealer, and he bought it two days later. It's a great truck. Both rigs are white, and both look like they're about a year old. I would NOT pay 14k for a first gen with 150k on the clock. A great deal would be 10k, 12k would be a solid buy. The Kelly Blue Book/Edmunds guides under value these trucks by about 50%.....trucks that are listed at 8k typically sell for 14k in California. I upgraded from a '94 4Runner to my '05, and I love the Tundra for comfort and power. Same gas mileage, too! Good luck.
