Anyone pick this up when buying your truck? Worth it? What was the amount paid?

I did, Toyota South East. Paid $1,000. for it, thing is, got it on my Wife's Venza 4 years ago, had the door locks go out, dealer wanted $400 per door to fix, told him to check the warranty and call me when it's done. It paid for itself on her's, I figure take the gamble on the Tundra. 100,000 miles is a long time.

Thanks for input. Did you purchase this at time of purchase or after? Plus what tier did you go with (Platinum/Gold/Silver)? I mean, its a toyota. I've done research and this it says that 1 out of 2 has need it in the past but this is a general statement covering all OEM's. I've seen on average that these will last on avg over 200K miles. I haven't decided on how long I want to keep the truck as the new generation may have some extra features I would like to have in the future.

These threads come up every once in a while. Here is a recent one:

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/extended-warranty.30000/

Bottom line is that these trucks have issues just like any other company - maybe not as many, but they do have issues. I didn't get an extended warranty on my truck at first, but when my engine sprang a cam tower leak at 14,000 miles, I bitched to corporate about it and they gave me a 100,000 mile warranty for free.

I got a platinum, 8 year, 80K mile, 0 deductible warranty for about $800. I look at these extended warranties as an insurance policy. you may never need it, but you will be glad that its there when you do.

I'd have to dig my paperwork out, I think those tiers depended on what region you're in, I know it would have been one of the lower levels. I did get it at purchase.

We bought the Platinum on both vehicles - the Tundra Pro and the 4-runner Pro. Can't remember what we paid because we had discounts from trading in vehicles that had it still active. The 4-Runner had a door lock actuator go out. The local dealership charged me $100 because we didn't buy the warranty there. My wife called the dealership we bought it from and they changed our plan to a $0 deductible with Gulf States Toyota. Then they told me to get my $100 back (which is proving to be a pain but it's pretty damn awesome they did that).

I'd say it's worth it. It would have been a lot more out of pocket if I didn't have it. If you're thrifty enough to bank it and not use it, more power to you. Personally, I would get it. Just make sure it's a 0 deductible at any Toyota Dealership.

Thanks for the link. I'm thinking I will have to call around first and get a good idea of the cost. If the dealership where I get my truck can beat it, I'll go with it.

I never get them. For as many cars that I've bought I probably saved a ton. The only thing is that I haven't kept cars longer than 3 years. I believe in Toyotas over domestic.

Just bought a new 2018 TRD Sport, didn't even bother and the dealership didn't even nag me like other mfg brands. It's a TOYOTA for heavens sake! lol I bought one for my Chevy and 3 years, nothing so what a waste of money.

But ...the dealership I bought it at did offer a Unlimited lifetime, unlimited miles on the engine/transmission and gearbox, FREE @ $100 deductible each visit the only catch is you have to follow the MFG's maintenance guide and keep all your receipts of service (self or from a shop). Also my Insurance has a MBI added policy for $19/ every 6 months that covers mechanical breakdown Insurance to cover mechanical failure.

Personally, I'd rather pay the deductible only when needed, it saves me a ton of money up front. And only for the BIG ticket items, everything else I can source and do it myself on the cheap.

One thing I really hate about extended warranties is that is does not start after the MFG warranty, it is covered during the same period so you're really paying for only 2 yrs , not 5 yrs or whatever. When you need service, they always use the MFG warranty first, so it's a total RIP OFF.

All Insurances are in the business of making money and they know it.
