Is there an advantage to using the stock GPS antenna over theirs?

The stock GPS antenna is a darn good one and will give you good reception. If you use the one provided with the unit, you will need to run the antenna to the best location for good reception, which is typically on top of the roof. The adapters I mentioned make the stock antenna plug and play and far superior than theirs.

Yep it is, that control module would make it easy to switch from front to rear cam anytime.

Ok. Found the connection for the front cam. It’s one of the other harnesses that come with the head unit. One of the yellow video connections is for front camera the other is for a side camera.

I still don’t know what the DVR app is for, or how it works. It doesn’t show either of the cameras when hooked up. I thought it was for a dash cam type app, but that’s not what it does.

I did download a dash cam app from the Google Play store and tried to use it. None of the camera apps recognize the front or rear cameras. Only a built in internal type, which the head unit does not have.

    Hey guys,

I found this on Alibaba which looks identical to this one on phoenix site.
I contacted the supplier, he quoted about 700$ for the unit with free shipping, wholesale has a different price though.

The specs looks identical , couldn't find anything different compared to the phoenix HU except for the 200$ :eek2:
Personally I haven't bought anything from alibaba or aliexpress and i'm not sure if this is a legit or not.

    what do you think guys?

The Phoenix webpage states this "Ask us for a discount code if you order more than one item. We can also price match".

    Maybe they will pricematch!

I found the unit price here which is 767$, contacting the supplier may get you a better price.
If you look at this page, all units(from the same version) look the same. I think they all buy the units from the mother company and sell them under different brand names. There doesn't seem to be any logo or anything that differentiate them from one another.

Here is a post for that a guy figured out the stock GPS with this 2nd version .

Found a way to use the stock GPS antenna without splicing wires. You'll need the following:

    1) Maestro Toyota adapter wire
    2) A "SMA" male to "SMB" male adapter

The SMA male to SMB male adapter is available on Amazon and shipped from Amazon. This makes the stock GPS antenna plug and play and works great .

That be me :D and works like a charm. Just a note that this adapter apparently only works with the "with buttons" version. Apparently the no button version uses a different GPS plug on the unit. Trying to have anyone with a no button version take a picture of the antenna wire plug that ships with the no button version so we can identify the plug type.

Here is a pic of the back of the "no button" version that someone on the FB group provided. My eyes are not as good as they used to be but can anyone here help identify the blue plug on the back. To me it looks like a standard coaxial "F Jack" female plug. Can anyone see it better and confirm?

Finally was home long enough to switch back to using the stock GPS antenna using these. You will need to tape the gold connectors together so they won't come apart since they are just held together by pressure and could come apart at some inconvenient time. After that you need to connect the stock GPS connector from the truck.

THE FOAM WRAPPED CABLE IS THE STOCK GPS.

Checked the signal strength and all seems fine.
Because the stock GPS antenna was already in an unobstructed location, I suspect I will have better satellite reception.

    ~TBS

EDIT: I have the V2 "w/buttons" so if you have a different model you will need to confirm the connectors.

Wish that cable wasn’t $50 for me. Don’t use GPS that much, is tunneling the supplied GPS antenna to the front of the dash in front of the mat that bad?

No. I ran it behind the dash to the drivers side door access panel, up under the weatherstripping, and ran it between the crack to the windshield. Very little problems. Using a metal fish made it much easier. I’ll take pics later.

Finally pulled the trigger on this with the new group buy. Maestro cable and coaxial adapters i see are needed to connect stock gps antenae. Any other wires or accessories needed or recommended? Has anyone tried hooking up 360 cameras? I know I have 2 months to wait at least judging by how units are still rolling in from last group buy, but still want to have everything ready to pop in when it gets here.

Found this vid, if you get the dongle, I guess CarPlay will look like:

(I'm assuming it's using the phone's GPS then for Maps)
