My 2005 Toyota Tundra Build

Hey Everyone!!! Brand new on here!! Just got a 2005 Toyota Tundra Access Cab and I'm super pumped to start working on it! I figured I used this site enough for ideas and help so I thought I'd share what I did. I hope you like it and please feel free to leave feedback and or tips/ constructive criticism.

So first of all, a little back story. I bought a 2001 Toyota 4Runner when I was 16 and put nearly 60,000 miles on it with no issues before I sold it with 210,000 miles for $4600. I knew I would always be a Toyota driver from then on because no other car is that reliable while still awesome for doing anything and going anywhere. However I'm 19 now and I wanted a truck for surfing and working and traveling and figured the 1st Tundra was my best bet. I looked on Craigslist near my house in San Diego County for months and finally found something cool up in Irvine. It was listed for $12,000 by a private party, black, the inside and the paint looked brand new, and best of all, only 77,000 miles! I went up there to check it out and then came back the next day to buy it for $10,500. Only thing that was a bummer is that it's a V6 but I can live with it. Here's a few photos of it the day I bought it.

Hey thanks for the welcoming!! Obviously, first off, the tires needed to go. They were trashed and I wasn't a fan of the stock rims at all. I also wanted to get rid of the stock "stink-bug" look and for that I would need a leveling or lift kit. I did, however, just spend basically all my money on this truck so I was on a bit of a budget. I wish I had more photos of the install for the Lift kit but it was a little harder than expected and it didn't help that my friend and I were putting it on at night. Anyway, after about 4 hours under my truck we finally got it all on and back together and I was stoked with the way it looked. However, now I absolutely had to get new tires because not only were the old ones dusted, they looked so stupid and small with the new lift. Luckily, I had planned for this and my truck needed to now be aligned anyways so I figured I'd kill 2 birds with one stone and get new wheels and tires put on in the next few days. The Discount Tires by my house was running a Labor Day sale and combine that with my friend working there, I got about $600 off for my new wheels and tires. I ordered 285/70R16 BFG All-Terrains KO2 and MB Wheels and had them put on just 2 days after the lift. I am so stoked on how it came out. Ignore my friend posing, haha I will try to get a few better photos tomorrow as well but tell me what you think! Notice, I also took the step bars off.. I like the look better without them but my girlfriend thinks it's hard to climb in and out of. What do you guys think?? Thanks! More to come!

 

Hahaha yeah she'll just have to live with it I think.. She loves my truck otherwise! Once I save up a bit more I want to get new shocks for the front and get rid of the spacers. That won't be for a while though I think.. However the radio is all stock and it's driving me crazy listening to the radio all the time. Anyone know of a good head unit I could put in there?? I originally wanted something with touchscreen but open to any suggestions. Thanks!

 

Nice truck!!! I’m actually looking to go with the same setup with my 02 AC Tundra. RC 2.5 lift and maybe go with 33’s. Are those KO2’s 31’s and if so do you think 33’s will fit cuz RC recommends 33’s with their kit but I’m not sure. You obviously have the experience so any advice or recommendation would be greatly appreciated!!!

Love the initial excitement when buying. Seems to die out and we never hear back.

Love the rivival going on with the first gens. Been seeing quite a few lately with newer wheels (Toyota type from other models).
