Anyone tear rotor cuff?

I fear I tore mine. Mri will tell, 6 months down time. I dont know I can do it for that long. Anyone with this experience?

 

Been there done that. Get it fixed ASAP, don't wait like I did. It was about 3 months down time, PT 3 times a week.

 

Yep, done that. Snowboarding and ice aren't the best combination.

Damnit. I tore mine about 20 years ago. Starting to go through same stuff you did Ron. By the end of a wheeling trip, I’m driving with one arm. Can’t sleep on my stomach with my arms above my head. Unfortunately I can’t have surgery and have my arm in a sling for that long due to work. How long did you wait before your surgery?

 

How do you know you tore it? How does it feel? What were you doing? If its torn, you probably have no mobility and can't lift anything. It may even be frozen.

 

Rope broke starting my saw, went to ortho today, tore my bicep. He said thats not a big deal but alot of the time when you tear a bicep the rotor cuff is trn also. I get an mri next week. It hurts when I move my arm certain ways.

 

Ah ok, well. Hopefully, it's just strained. The MRI will tell you the truth. Don't rely on 3 months or any type of time frame. It will all depend on your body, recovery and rehab. I won't joke about the drawstring on your saw.

 

Had mine repaired. FMLA with no pay for three months. Lots of therapy recovery. Took two years to feel normal again. Good luck. D

 

My older brother did years ago during a MX race. Laid up 6 months...as in missed worked for 6 months. My SIL said ....."NO MORE".


I got a great deal on his dirt bikes...heh...heh...

I hear ya I am a Firefighter kinda need the strength in my arm. Praying it is not torn. Although I will get paid while off. I cant work my PT job. Suck when I got a new truck and a kid in college.

Tore mine about five years ago. I still had mobility and lifted weights but bench press would make the pain unbearable. Had a 95% tear along with bone spurs. They also shaved off 12mm of my clavicle. Therapy 3x week and I was back to full duty in about 3-4 months. It’s a bitch of a surgery and rehab is rough but you have to go.

 

Surgeons are much better now. My brother just turned 69 today. Still can't lift his right arm beyond horizontal.

 

He moonlights as an exotic dancer. Heard from a friend..

 

Recovery also depends on your occupation. Example...........MLB ace pitcher...a year easy. Tundras.com Mod..........2 weeks....hahahaha

 

Thank you Ron I appreciate that story, my concern is not my full time work I will still get paid. I will lose my prt money. Just got a 19 tundra , 4 wheeler payment and a kid in college. I can get by on my full time salary. What concerns me is 1 will the repair go well so I CAN make it back to the job and 2 I cant sit still, im always doing something

 

Before my prostate surgery, I double checked my urologists background and several others. Turns out my doc was rated in the top 5 in the country for my DaVinci robotic surgery. You can do the same thing. There are several websites where you can check out your docs' background and others in your area that is specific for your problem.

Everyone heals differently. 6 weeks in a sling and intense PT 3x a week. I was about 90% good at 3 months but I did baby it for a few more weeks.

Just don't put it off, it will only get worse.

My father did, he had surgery, that's was years ago

 

Happened to me as a college athlete. Full tear. Had surgery pretty quick so I only redshirted one year but no way I could have continued day to day activities with that pain.
I had Texas A&M athletics DRs and the best rehab experts I could get so blessed there. Still see those guys on the tv when players get hurt during football games.
Several weeks of 0 use of arm- then very basic pt- it’s amazing having 0 strength in your shoulder- your mind says raise your arm, but it doesn’t happen. In a full sling for a couple months I believe. Had surgery in sept and was back to practicing in April.
Years later, it acts up sometimes. I can’t any type of ball without pain and I’m not going through that again so I gave up any type of activity like that- plus no flat bench press, but incline is ok. Btw I’m only 31. Kinda sucks but it could always be worse.

Interesting timing on this thread. I didn't have a tear, just arthritis taking it's toll. Eight years ago I had the right shoulder taken care of. We tried cortisone shots twice which only made the pain go away for about a month. Finally I had enough and scheduled the surgery. Doc did ablation to clean up the joint where the cartilage had deteriorated. He made three little "portholes" he called them for the scope and tools. When they knocked me out they gave me choice of two type of anesthesia. I went with the one that totally numbed my entire arm. I had it done on a Thursday morning. My arm was like jello until I went to sleep that night. I took off work that Friday. Stayed around the house Saturday and Sunday and went back to work Monday. I've been right side pain free since.

Not long before you started this thread I was back to the same doc for the same pain in the other shoulder now. I had him give me the shot for now since I have something coming up soon that I don't want to interfere with the surgery. I'm pretty sure I'll let him do his magic in another month or two.

Physically getting older kinda sucks.

 

Had mine done 20 years ago, and like the difference in techniques for knee replacement, I suspect the methods used today are better than they were then. I had the second knee replaced 10 weeks ago and I am 90 percent back, first one took 8 months to get where I am now in flexation. One thing that may have made the rehab quicker this time was the fact that I was far better prepped strength wise. First time I had to do a leg lift after surgery, I cried and peed in my pants a little...second time I did 10 reps first day.

Full rotator cuff surgery was worse than either knee, but listen to your therapist and do the work if you want to get better, I saw people at the 10 week check up on the knee that had to have scar tissue cut because they said therapy hurt...I am on the cusp of 65 and am going back to Montana in three weeks, I had to be ready, outfitter was already paid...
