Hey ladies and gents! I'm Charles! I'm active duty Army and I'm about to purchase a tundra and wanted to get some feedback! I leased a 2018 tundra prior to my deployment and I loved it, as I traded up from a tacoma.

Grab a beer, as this is a long one.

This is what i'm looking for and my plan, and also what i'm considering biting the bullet on.
    New(2018/2019)
    SR5 Crewmax 5.7
    4x4
    SR5 upgrade package
    No added accessories

MY reasoning behind a plain and simple truck is that over time I plan on upgrading my suspension, tires, and wheels and adding steps and all the extras so there isn't really a point in buying the off-road or sport packages, as i'm just going to replace those parts anyways, and they are not great to begin with. I want the SR5 upgrade package to get the real seats (apparently there are other kinds of seats) and mainly the 38 gallon fuel tank. So that's a must.

Now the kicker is, I really am in love with cavalry blue and cement (blue > cement) and finding a plain and boring truck in such an exotic color has been kind of difficult (i've been browsing for the last 7 months)

I stumbled across this truck a few days ago, and I finally called the dealer (i'm deployed so the time zone difference is a pain in the noggin) and asked for a price sheet and information about the truck. I also asked how much it would cost to buy this as is with no negotiations out the door. (if i'm not allowed to link, my apologies I will remove it)
I live in GA, and this truck is 2 hours away, in FL.
    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/748540100/overview/

    Numbers on the price sheet:
    Selling Price: 48617
    Discounts: 2000
    Adjusted price: 46617
    Dealer added accessories: 1976
    Taxable fees: 106.50
    Predelivery fee: 799
    Tax: 3019.91
    Non tax fees: 385
    Net price: 52903.41

I was appalled at sight of this. No way am I going to pay that much.
Firstly, the price sheet matched the dealers website price at 48617, I found it on cars for 45771, so theres 3000 off the top right there.

I emailed them inquiring about what the discount was for, and for a complete workup of the accessories added and their MSRP. Once I hear back I will post more information as to the details about the accessories but just from what I can see I have priced the following from toyota's website MSRP.

    Predator steps: 699 (definintely removable)
Skid Plate step: 399 (definintely removable)
Bed liner: 539 (definintely NOT removable)
    Toyoguard: 699 (removable?)
Phone cable package: 69 (definintely removable)

For a total of 2405 (so thats more than they're listing. But I don't need all of that, as I can buy and install for probably half that price. But, their website has a 20% off all accessories coupon that expires the end of october. So I may be able to get them to knock 20% off their 1976 for dealer added accessories and call it a win.

They also provided me with the option to finance through them and save 1000, and I also get 1000 military rebate (not sure if they will allow it to stack). Now I did some rough numbers and this is what i've come up with.
    Dealer - 72 months, 3.75%
    Navy fed - 84 months, 5.89%

I haven't gotten preapproved or anything (I have a 757 credit score, so I am not too worried, although my soon to be ex wife's car is still on my credit as a cosigner, soooo i'm not quite sure)

If I can get the dealer to drop the price to 45771 this is what i've come up with, if they keep the discount in place at 2000. I am planning on putting 10% down and have been using 4500 as a figure.

Dealer________3rd party finance or if both 1000 discounts don't stack
    45771________45771
    -2000_______-2000 (discount)
    -1000_______-1000 (military rebate)
    -1000_______-0 (finance through the dealer)
    41771_______42771 (Selling Price)
    -4500_______-4500 (down payment)
    37271_______38271 (Price after down payment)
    +799________+799 (Predelivery fee unavoidable?)
+106.50_____+106.50 (taxable fees, not 100% sure)
    +1581_______+1581 (dealer accessories after 20%)
    39757.50_____40757.50 (After fees, before tax)
+2746.26_____+2746.26 (6% tax, Florida)(based on final selling price?)
    42503.26_____43503.26 (total after tax)
    +385________+385 (non tax fees?)
    42888.26_____43888.26 (Net price)

I'm almost certain I have the understanding of where the rebate and down payments come in, so if someone could enlighten me, that would be greatly appreciated!

Autotrader says the invoice of Tundra 4WD SR5 CrewMax 5.5' Bed 5.7L FFV is 37,134. Sport package on toyota is 5870. That doesn't add up. But also I am getting the complete sport package for 5955 which is more. Also it seems they are charging for the shift knob in the sport package, and on included options, so twice? could save 150 more. If I could get rid of the Entune I would, but I am almost positive I cant.

I've also found one thats exactly what I want, 2018 cement SR5 crewmax with just the SR5 upgrade package, and the internet price is 39639. 2775 would be tax on that, with a dealer closing fee/non tax fee of 453 total. So out the door price of 41592. 1000 military rebate is all they offer. At this point it seems like it wouldnt be too much more to just get the sport. Granted it comes with items I will eventually replace, but I wont be for some time anyways and in the mean time it's a better looking truck.
    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/746677075/overview/

Whew that was a lot of number crunching and typing. (I did it on the fly, roughly during my work day) Could someone smarter, and more experienced check my work and tell me where i'm wrong? I know I made some mistakes. I don't want to jip the dealer of 100% of their profits, as they probably wont sell it then. But I also don't want to be ripped off.

You can definitely tell them to shove it on the “toyoguard”. They try to say “it’s already on the truck” because it supposedly includes a protective coating. The sales guy will disappear for 5 mins and come back and say “we will deduct the price of the toyoguard but you can still have it!”

Just got off the phone with that first dealership and this is what I learned.
they will match the price down to 45771, by essentially increasing that 2000 discount to 2846. Also the two separate discount/rebates for 1000 do not stack and I am only eligible for one IF I finance through them.

I am awaiting the breakdown of the 1976 dealer installed accessories, as what he listed was like tint, mats, mud flaps, all stuff that I didn't pick out and some of which may be included in the sport package.

    48617 Selling price
    3846 rebates/discounts
44771 adjusted price (price match + 1000 rebate)
    1976 accessories
    46747 total purchase price
799 service fee(he said dealer profit)
    2969.15 tax
385 non tax fees (license and stuff he said, but will decrease I guess)
    51006.65 net price

Soooo I feel I made literally no headway. 1896.76 from the first price. Granted I still am putting down roughly 10% but still. I feel it can be better. Thoughts?

    Hi and welcome from Maryland.

As some as said, you can get a higher priced model for that price.
If not mistaken the military discount does stack.

If I were you I would look around, check to see if any dealers, have 2018’s on the lots, because 2019 are arriving on the lots. You may need to widen your search to find one. On the 2018’s you can negotiate a better deal or get more truck for money. When shopping for mine, I chose getting the bigger discount. I ended up getting $10k off sticker for mine.
Look for dealers that have inventory sitting or bigger dealer franchises rather then smaller franchises. The bigger guys at least in my experience has more room to negotiate. Don’t forget to look at Carmax, they sell New Toyota’s in certain areas, if you do a national search you will find a 2019 with your color, and upgrade option for less then you were quoted on.

Having your ex-wife car loan is going to impact your credit score, your going to want to get that off. If I’m not mistaken dealers are offering a .09% financing, at least in my area. I would imagine it would be the same near you.

Thank you for your service to our country!

    Accessory breakdown as follows

    $1,976 includes;

    Running Boards

    Console Safe

Floor Mats (don't these come with the sport package? Unless they're the all weather ones)

    Front Skid Plate

    Wheel Locks

Mud Guards (do these not come standard?)

Window Tint (not even necessary for me, but nice. even though it doesn't look like much of a tint)

Call me a traitor, but I came to my senses and decided a Tundra is too big of a truck for me right now and for what I want. I just put a deposit down on a 2018 Tacoma TRD Pro.

Congrats on the pro. I think you’ll enjoy the Taco. Had mine for 8 years before I upgraded to a Tundra. Was just down your way - took my new Tundra on a road trip to Tybee last month. The wife wore out the credit card shopping in Savannah.
