with a top notch credit score what kind of rates would I be looking at for used vs certified at 72months.

Considering a sr5 off-road or limited. As well as a 4Runner. Still debating and I’m off the rest of the week. Gives me time to go do some test driving.

Ask your bank or credit union first.
Then you will know your base interest rate.

Get your own loan. Our credit union can do 2.5-3% on used cars. Dealers will rape you with 4-6%.

My credit union is at 3.19 with my credit at 72 months. Too bad because rates used to be down to 1.99 for that term.

I financed my wife’s 4Runner at 60 for 1.79 three years ago. Usually I pay cash for my vehicles, but at that rate I decided to not even pay it off.

Rates are up right now. And the government regulates rates/terms based on credit scores. It’s pretty shitty.

Long gone are the days of banking with one bank for a long time and being reliable. You get no love from that anymore. They are at the mercy of pre determined numbers

I've let the dealer shop rates on the last 3 vehicles that our household has purchased. All 3 times the dealer has beat both of the credit unions we bank with, both my wife and I have spotless credit with long account histories.

The dealers have power with financial institutions.

Finance rates vary greatly from lending institution to lending institution and then any given lender will change their rates from month to month. You have to do your research and shop loans. Good news is Most banks and credit unions have websites and advertise their rates under their Auto Loan information tab or Loan rates tab...or something similar. Sometimes you have to dig around on the websites to find the latest loan rates. Also you can join almost any credit union out there, theres always some loophole to become a member as they want your business...so if you call them they can help you and will often walk you through the steps to join. Often times it's just a matter of giving a $10 donation to a local club in that credit unions regional area, or becoming a member of a local charity group (usually a small online monetary donation to become a member) etc.

What I like to do is buy the car and finance through dealer. They make profit if they finance you and will usually give you a better purchase price on the vehicle if you finance through them. Just make sure there is no early payoff fee.

Once you roll the vehicle, go find a better rate somewhere else and refinance it. Now you have a better loan rate and the best purchase price on the vehicle.

one thing to consider is I think Toyota will do lower rates on certified. I think they advertise new car rates now. A year ago I think certified pre owned was at zero percent for those that qualify. 72 months seems like a long time for an auto loan although many are moving in that direction as US auto loan debt is way up compared to 2008. At least these vehicles will hold value better than most.

You can get 0% for 72 on a new 2018 right now. I purchased new at the end of June and got 0.9% for 60. Dealers are trying to get rid of their inventory to make room for 19’s. Why buy used?

35k for a new sr5 doesnt seem unreasonable. You have to think of total cost when financing. You can find a new one for 0 or 0.9 thru toyota or you can get a used or preowned one with 2+%. You might save yourself money in the long run buy getting a new vehicle with a lower % rate.

Not 35, but a good friend and coworker of mine just bought a 18 TRD Offroad crewmax for 39K OTD in Virginia and got an excellent rate and spray in liner from the dealer. We both looked for months and never could find a decent used crewmax for 35-37. I bought a TRD sport crewmax for 42 OTD , I wish I would have waited for another month. Rates are great on a new 18.
