    2018 Platinum Crewmax 4x4 Super White...Fastest Color!
Hello to all from Columbia SC. My '18 Crewmax 4x4 Platinum (Super White) is 3 weeks old today. For the most part, I'm happy with it. I hope this truck performs as well as the Toyota cars I've owned...85 Celica, 89 Camry, 95 Camry and 06 Avalon.

After reading some of the posts on this forum, I was glad to see the EPAs mpg estimates were somewhat accurate for my driving style. First tank with a light foot was 13.5 mpg in city driving. I did get 17.5 mpg on a trip to Atlanta last week using cruise control and I tried to keep my speed at 70 mph or below...slowest guy on the interstate in the fastest color. MPG was calculated manually...the trip computer MPG calculation was all over the place. I understand how a heavier foot would significantly lower the EPAs numbers. After all, it only has 381 hp. The 69 GTO I had near the end of my high school days had a factory rating of 360 hp. As I remember, it got around 13 mpg too, but premium gasoline only cost $0.50 per gallon.

No plans on modding it other than adding steps (TBD) and a Lomax Pro cover that arrived dented...waiting for a promised RMA. (see the photos below) The dealer had installed a piece of plastic krap that the salesman called a bed liner ($759 option)...I told the salesman that under no circumstance did I want that piece of plastic krap. They took it out and subtracted $759 off the price...which made me ask if they'd do the same with the moon roof...wasn't as successful with that request. All the Platinums, at the 4 dealerships in my area, all had moon roofs...didn't see a Platinum without one. I've never used the moon roof on my 06 Avalon..just another useless thing that I don't want. I'm undecided on a spray-in bedliner. I grew up on a farm and none of the trucks had any kind of liner in the bed...they didn't have bed covers either but a friend had an SS El Camino with a tonneau cover...it was faster in the 1/4 mile with the tonneau cover so a cover has to help with mpg? Right?? I don't plan on taking it off road in the near future but you never know.

    IMG_0115.jpg
    IMG_0123.jpg

Only problems so far...beginning last week, the drivers door would only unlock manually...using the key (from outside) or manually from inside...electric unlock, both remotely from key or electric lock/unlock button, neither would unlock the drivers door. The other three doors function as they should. Another small problem, the drivers door has an annoying rattle on rough roads. I suppose I'll be seeing the dealer for the electric door unlock problem.

I'm still trying to figure out how to use Entune. I don't use pandora, slacker, or yelp but I do use Iheart radio. We have iphones and siri understands voice commands much better than the hands free voice commands in the truck. I also find the touch screen lockout when the truck is in motion extremely annoying. I saw the hack on this forum to cure that problem but I'm not ready to resort to that yet. I really like the backup camera and wish Toyota had a forward camera as well. I saw that DIY project on the forum too. I spent nearly $50k on the truck and I'm not ready to tamper with the systems because a guy on Youtube successfully modded his system. I'm hoping this truck last me 20 years but in 5 years I'll probably want a new one.

These forums are great for people like me to learn from other folks experiences. I'm not sure how to insert photos yet but I suppose the more attempts I make, the higher the probability is that I'll succeed. I'm sure I'll have specific questions for the smart folks on the forum in the near future. Again, hello to all.

Welcome from NC. I have actually gotten 22 mpg on an all highway tank of fuel (90 Octane non-ethanol), definitely the key is keeping the speed below 72 for mine and being easy on the throttle.

Hey, I just joined also, in Greenwood. I think that truck blipped my Carguru search a couple of times, nice truck!

Dealer tried to make me pay extra for the wheels they put on my truck, nice wheels but I'm not into that stylish stuff, told them to put the steel wheels back on, long story short, they didn't take the wheels off anything but the invoice. :fistbump:

My wife has a Venza and 3 of the 4 door locks failed, 4 years old but extended warranty paid for itself because they wanted $450 each. Wonder if there's a larger issue with Toyota's electric lock motors.

I bet your farm trucks were not as nice as this bad boy!

That's good to know, I'm roadtripping to Jacksonville tomorrow and have a full tank of non-ethanol.

My brother is a GMC/Chevy HD diesel guy and calls my new ride an "old man's truck". If I wanted to "modify" a truck, I wouldn't have bought a new truck. As soon as these tires are worn out, I'll be looking for some real meaty tires. It suits me fine the way it is...for now.

I said I wasn't going to modify this truck but I found these on Craig's List just 4 miles from my home...had to have them. As I swapped out the tires/wheels, I weighed the standard Platinum 20" wheels with Bridgestone Duelers...82 lbs each. These were 72 lbs each.
