If it's part of the evap emissions system it will throw codes and the engine light will come on.

I know this because, we tried to bypass it on my boys 4Runner.

    Welcome from CO.

Is it the canister under the hood with a wire harness going to it? If so, dont do it. Are you talking about the vapor cannister?

If you want more air flow somewhere on here there is an airbox mod.

Or get a highflow drop-in air filter, I wouldn't mess too much with the emissions.

You could asked the dealer. Or wait till someone more knowledgeable than me says something.

I would ask the dealer. I thought you were talking about the canister. Sorry!

I removed mine long ago. Others have done the same. It's a Kalifornia thing, that Toyota did to them all. Doesn't cause any problems, but I can't say that it helped anything, either.

I removed mine and had no issues or codes. I know people say it makes no real difference but i droped in AFE dry filter and replaced the tire air with nitrogen on the same night and to my surprise, i was able to spin the bfg’s again. It could be all in my head, but it fealt great to put my foot on the pedal:burnrubber:

I removed my intake charcoal filter, no issues for 80k miles.

@Grumpy Uncle was talking about the evap canister. Remove that and you won’t be happy (like he said).

Disconnect MAF sensor, remove air box lid, carefully drill out plastic holders a little, pop out with screwdriver. Save the filter and if you want to reinstall later, glue back in (this is why you don’t drill the plastic holders out all the way).

I was referring to the additional air tunnel people are installing. Two holes into the box.

Toyota spends millions in research to make our vehicles both EPA compliant and efficient. No one wants to see more mileage than Toyota. Everyone I talked to about a tundra said "great truck, burns more gas that the other big three 1/2 tons..." I think it is mostly because we don't drop cylinders or play stupid engine games that ultimately shorten the life of the engine and cause major repair bills. We ask for everything all the time... I want 400HP, 500ftlb of torque, 27MPG, and if you could knock off $15k I'd buy it! How many times do we say "I want a diesel???" well chevy did it in the Colorado, but it costs $45k for a compact diesel pick up. Nissan tried it and everyone bitches because it isn't a 3/4-1 ton. Ram did it and they seem to either blow up or run great (flip a coin). At the end of the day we bought a truck. Trucks are made to haul and tow. Most of us use them like a car. You can't have it all. My biggest complaint that would be an easy fix is a 6.5' bed on a crew max. All the parts are laying around, they just need to offer it. We all knew when we signed the line that these trucks get 15mpg... It ain't a secret.

All you need is an Air Flow Accelerator, and an upgraded air filter like an aFe, or TRD. The stock box is the same as the TRD box minus the red trim. :mudding:

OHHH I noticed that where I put my K&N in my air box I was wondering what that (extra) filter was, and if it needed Cleaning or anything like that.
Was also wondering about the box on the side of the intake is, Like a baffle of some kind.
