Hey y’all, looking at a 2011 Tundra with 102k miles. It’s a 5.7L that is in great shape but don’t know what to look for when looking one over. Previous owner says he towed an 8000# trailer for camping and am wondering if I need to have my mechanic look at anything specific? He only owned it for 20k miles so hoping it hasn’t been towing it’s entire life.

Anything I should look at when taking a test drive?

Welcome Elias. Check the cam towers and look for rust underneath...... all the usual stuff you'd look at, leaks underneath etc.

Welcome from CO. Definitely see if there are maintenance records. Have someone rev up that 5.7 and check out what's coming out the exhaust.

Thanks y’all, hopeful rust won’t be much to worry about, carfax is interesting but no damage ever reported.

Thanks, been driving a Chevy with the rest of my brothers and dad and it seems we are all changing over to Toyota’s... slowly.

If the truck looks to be in good shape, it most likely is. Being in good condition is usually a good indicator of it being well taken care of.
The Transmission would be a concern from towing, but no real quick check on it, not even a dip stick.

Maybe have a mechanic check it out as well.

Ended up not purchasing after being unable to agree on price... Guy thought his truck was "special" above other tundras because it was his... anyways, looking at a new one now, I posted it in a new thread and am again looking for advice.

Going to check out a 2008 Tundra Dbl Cab SR5 with TRD with just under 75k miles, one owner, and shows complete vehicle history and service via Toyota dealership. Guy has records of dealership giving the truck an excellent rating for rust and gave it a spray due to warranty/recall (I live in Michigan). Guy is asking $16,700, should I jump on it? I'll be taking it to a shop of course to have it checked out. Anything I should look out for on my own?

I drive 40k miles a year and need a truck that can last the next 4 years reliably with minimal $$$ poured into it every year (totaled my chevy and thought I should look into the vehicles with the most die-hard-crazy-fanatics for owners *cough* Toyota *cough*).

That seems almost like too good a price with that kind of mileage. I assume 4x4 (you said TRD package) with a 5.7? Just look at rust and cam towers like others have said. If all checks out then I say go for it!

    Carfax is overrated.
Check the hood, fenders, doors for matching VIN numbers, if you don't see them, then they were like replaced at some time.
