Question about the Toyota TechStream hardware and software. I want to purchase the cable and all for my 2016 SR5 but I keep reading stuff I don’t know much about. What all do I need? Is the software and cable you can buy on Amazon legit and virus free? I use Mac’s and I have a very old pc (maybe windows 7)? Would buying a small 200$ netbook / laptop work? Any advice would be great! Thanks

Don't waste time with using the software that comes on the mini disc. You can find it many places on the internet. There is a very long thread on TundraTalk.net that has all the versions of the software. Register to the site and get the program for free. Its were I got mine.

As for a net book, I tried it and it did work, but was very slow. Same for running Windows XP in a virtual machine mode. Oddly enough, of all the different machines that I tried, a Windows Vista laptop was the best I found.

All the earlier versions were designed to run on 32 bit machines. There has been several work arounds that allow the program to work with newer 64 bit machines. I haven't tried any yet.

I used an old Windows Professional machine running in Vertural XP machine mode. It worked but was slow.

Be advised, if you an average computer user, you will experience a bit of a longer learning curve. I wasn't very computer savvy when I got my TS program and it took a lot of google searches to teach myself how to make this thing work. There were a few times I wanted to throw the laptop across the room.

All in all, I'm glad I stuck with it. The program has some amazing features that allow you to make changes to your truck.

Thanks for the info: I was thinking about buying some cheap 200$ laptop or netbook or whatever they call them nowadays and using it just for my tundra. I have forgotten everything Windows based and it seems foreign to me after using IOS for so long.
I would like to be able to check so stuff that the dealership says is fine but I highly doubt. Plus if there’s a way to change things and duplicate a key, then it pays for itself. The last thing I want is a virus or damage to my truck

You won't have to worry about a virus damaging the truck. Toyota has locked the ECU(s) down. There is very little changes that you can make to the ECU's. There are many setting changes that are already in place that Toyota allows you to change with the TS program.

I should try this on my 64bit Windows 10. I've been wanting to turn off the feature that slide my seat back and forth. I asked the dealership to disable it at the last service but they didn't do it. :annoyed:

I run bootcamp on my Macbook so I can run windows for tuning my evo, I will have to get techstream on there now too, didn't know it was that easy to come by! Maybe I can finally turn off the damn seat-belt alarm....

I use it on my laptop with Win7 64 bit. Works fine. Currently been using ver 10.20.030, but also have a couple more versions up through 12.00.127 that I haven't installed.

Hi everyone I am new to this post/site so bare with me, I am finding out I am having similar problems many other people are having. I bought a Mini VCI on ebay and have loaded the disk and have successfully installed techstream on my windows 10 64bit computer. I am having a hell of a time trying to get the VCI cable to connect. I have googled every site posable and have tried to make all changes necessary with little luck of getting it to work. My question is this, has anyone successfully installed and connected to there truck using windows 10 64bit? If anyone has could you please share the web site or process to do so or the steps taken to make it work? I ordered a used tough book off of ebay with windows XP. I am hoping that this will work in in the event this will not.

There is a HUGE thread on TundraTalk.net that shows how to do this with a 64 bit machine.

You can go there and learn all you want.

I feel I have tried everything, no one talks about windows 10. I see a lot on other operating systems like xp, 7, 8 but nothing on windows 10. I was just hoping to find someone who did it on windows 10 who can confirm it and hopefully send me to the link that they used. If you google it, it talks a lot about 64bit systems but the videos and computer menus are consistent to older systems.
