Seriously! Am going in my 3rd week of cessation

I smoked for almost 30 years, and the last 10 I went up to a pack a day.

Started Chantix, and the very next day, my urge went to drip...actually a flash!!!
Now am weaning myself off Chantix as I hate OTC drugs, and if I don’t have that urge, I can do this!!!

Do the math @ $7.50/ day........

    How did you quit?

Disclaimer: I am no sales promoter or promotions for the drug. Used the patch and didn’t get the same effect.....see your doctor first. Not liable!

I used Chantix, I know they say it takes 6 months but I only took it for a month and it has now been 5yrs since I quit. I only smoked for 3yrs but I was smoking a pack a day and the Chantix worked great for me. I’d give it at least a month before stopping it.

I totally just did cold turkey.

Personally, you have to want this, just you.

One of the hardest things you will do, but believe me, you have the will power inside you. I can’t even be around smokers now, I never knew how rank I really was. Good luck, been over 20 years since a pack of cigarettes were purchased and at least 14 years for dip.

I don’t mind a good cigar if @COMiamiFan brings out some of his fine stash. Love the smell and draw of a good cigar!

Quit 30 years ago after smoking two packs/day for 20 years. Cold turkey. Like @ColoradoTJ said, you have to want to quit. Actually scared the piss outa me. I was 40, and the withdrawal sent my heart into arrhythmia. The cardiologist checked me out, and asked if I was doing anything stressful (besides being an air traffic controller, LOL) or different in my routine. Determined that it was the stress of withdrawal, it wouldn't hurt me, and would go away eventually. The arrhythmia did go away after about 2 months.

After 30 years, I still have an occasional dream that I'm smoking again.

I used Chantix when it first hit the market haven't had a cig in 11.5 years. I had tried several other ways but after smoking for 20 years it was tough. After 2 days of Chantix no urge to smoke at all and was off the Chantix after 90 days.

    Congrats and good luck

What’s so stressful about being an ATC? Just directing hundreds of plains and lives in your hands. No pressure though. :hattip:

I quit cold turkey in 2005. After some fat jokes from my dad, I quit smoking and began :benchpress::muscleflexing::curls:

Besides, I know if and when I’m ever in a fight for my life or someone else’s- I
won’t be the one too tired to give up.

I quit cold turkey 10 years ago. It was the best decision I've ever made. If you're serious about wanting to quit, you can be successful. The best advice I got was "never take another puff". Just one puff will give your brain the dopamine, and the craving will start all over. Best wishes on your quit journey! You can do it!

Quit about a year ago. Smoked a pack a day for 20 years. As many have said you will never be successful at quiting unless you want to quit, as with any addiction. I used Nicorette lozenges to help me! Boy does it stink after you quit. Can’t stand being around the smell anymore.

I quit November 11, 2000 after 15 years or so. I flew to Boston to see a hypnotherapist called "the mad Russian". Before that I had tried cold turkey, patches and the "Chantix" of the day, whatever it was called. I will say I never stopped liking it and I am one puff away from going back to a pack a day. I literally won't touch a pack of cigarettes.

I see my primary care doctor on the 14th. I'm going to bring up Chantix during my physical.

I started dipping in college then quit that using swedish snus, but I've been hooked on snus for 10 years now..have tried quitting a few times but never wanted to enough to follow through

cold turkey. I was 1.5 packs/day of Newport 100's for about 17 years. and I've been quit for about 17 years now.

If I only count the times that I've made it a month or longer, I've quit at least 10 times. hardest thing I've ever done. It took about a year for the craving to really go away, now second hand smoke is repulsive to me.

My daughter was the final straw for me. there were two events that happened within about a week of each other when she was four:
    1. in the grocery store, I saw her over by the cigarette case, miming the act of smoking a cigarette. part of me died that moment.
    2. I used to take her with me to a group that meet weekly, after which the smokers would hang out and shoot the breeze. Little H would run around with a few other kids. as we were walking out one week, she turns to me and asks "daddy, are we going to go smoke?" That was it. "we?!?!??! no honey, we're never going to smoke again".

I quit for about a year. Went cold turkey. Just wanted to quit. I was single then and had no desire to smoke again.

I met a girl. She was a smoker. I picked it right back up pretty easily. Relationship didn't last but I continued smoking and had it in my mind to quit again.

About a year later I met another girl. A non smoker. I wanted to quit anyway and didn't feel comfortable lighting up in front of her. Took me about a year but I weened myself off of them because I liked her more than the cigarettes. If I craved one I chewed sugarless gum instead. No nicotine patches or nicotine gum. Just plain old sugarless gum. The bars and parties were tough with everyone smoking around you. I'd mooch them occasionally. Prices went up and I noticed my buddies didn't want to donate to my habit. Finally I just said fuck it. It's a disgusting habit that is killing you slowly. That was 18 years ago. I can't even stand to be around a smoker today. The smell is awful. When a smoker walks into the room you can smell them from ten feet away. Go out to an event where smoking is going on; the stench sticks to your clothes, skin, and hair.

From what I remember, first thirty days is tough. Next thirty is better. If you make it 60 days you'll probably be done for life. Avoid other smokers or just ask them not to smoke around you. Chew gum. keep it in your car, in your house, desk, tool box. Whatever. After a while you'll notice how offensive smokers smell because you can actually smell things again. Food tastes better.

On rare special occasions I will huff down a cigar with friends. I regret it for about three days after because I can still taste it. I still have zero desire to smoke a cigarette.

And if you're wondering, me and the new girl just celebrated 18 years of marriage. 8-26-2000.

I used the nicotine lozenges. I wasn't a super heavy smoker, I rarely exceeded a pack a day. If you're looking to quit, the best time to start is when you have a cold or the flu, as you're not going to want a cigarette during those days anyway. For me, the lozenges were a good option, I started on those after I got over my cold. You don't chew on them, you let them dissolve in your mouth. I used to put them behind my lip, sort of like people who use tobacco do. It gives you a strangely satisfying burn. No, it's not the same as a cigarette, but it stops you from ripping people's heads off. Haven't touched a tobacco product in 9 years.

    None.
I quit smoking two years ago.

    COLD TURKEY

All it takes : mental readiness for what the body will need, aka, lack of nicotine.

Along the smoke i also quit coffee and every sweetner ( chocolate, cakes, etc )
Because they were one set : nicotine, caffeine and sugar.

Withdrawal symptoms : up to four weeks. Short temper. Hunger. Diorientation. Nervous.

Although nicotine flushes from your body after the third day, the idea of smoking will hardly leave your mind.

Your mind got used to smoking after meal, with coffee, during a phone call, after sex, with beer, etc. that is why you have to be mentally prepared not just with medications.

    Punch line :

That is exactly how i did it. And i am NOT better than you. So, yes you can do it too.
