I have had my 2007 tundra trd for about 6 months or so. My 2000 tundra has a serpentine
belt issue so I am finally driving the 2007. When I got it it had 75,000 miles on it. I may have put about 3000 miles on it. I like it but have 2 questions.
After coming to a complete stop, I get the .... thump.... sound, sounds like someone hit me in the back. Being a 2007 I thought i heard there was a tsb on it for this. I called the local toyota dealer and they so NO. Is there a way to address this ?

This is a trd. I understand it has some optional things, but is there a way without spending a fortune to get it to ride smooth? a rough ride

I've noticed a light thump in mine when coming to a stop and taking off. Don't notice it all the time so might be dependent on how the truck is loaded. I have a suspicion it is similar to an issue I had on my full size blazer. Actually a common issue on the full size blazers and 2 door tahoes. It was really pronounced on the blazers. A clunk and an audible noise sounding like the spring pack was shifting or a shock was sticking. On the blazer I tried greasing and spraying lubricants on the leaf springs but that wasn't causing it. Replaced shocks. Rode better but didn't help. Eventually I replaced spring packs with some heavy duty ones. It needed the springs, old ones were sagging, but didn't stop the clunk.

The trans output tail shaft/drive shaft slip shaft is what was causing it. I think the tailshaft bushing gets a little wear, the slip shaft gets a little wear. When you stop and go the axle twists a little, the slip shaft moves in and out and makes a clunk.

The remedy on blazer was remove shaft, polish it with some 180 grit emery cloth, and reinstall it with a healthy amount of the stickiest grease I could find. It would stop clunking for a while. It became an annual procedure. I have a notion that replacing the slip shaft and tail shaft bushing might resolve it long term. On the blazers it would start up around 80 to 100 thousand miles accompanied by a little driveline vibration at highway speeds. My Tundra has 165k on it. Original U-joints. I've noticed a subtle clunk on a few occasions but haven't observed any vibration.

In the case of the blazers and tahoes, GM did have a TSB. It just took me a while to find the right guy that was aware of it. Not sure if this is the source of your clunk but it's a damn hard one to figure out if it is.

Post it up if you figure it out.

The ABS on these is super loud. I live in the snow belt so I am very familiar with the system. If you drive in snow plan on replacing rear brakes a lot. The right rear wears out fastest. I've done rears three times and fronts twice in last 80k miles. The abs is loud but I've never heard it run under normal driving conditions, starting, stopping. Snow, ice, loose gravel, ABS/Traction Control sounds like someone shaking a can of marbles around. It's noisy but it works and the noise is clearly coming from under the hood, not the rear.

I haven't driven a newer one. I know what will happen. I'll get back in mine and it just won't be the same.

Anyway, I hope the info helps.
