i work for Shell Oil at a refinery. I work in a control center and handle Oil movements from rail, pipeline, tanker truck, and Wharf (ships and barges).
its a job i learned in the Air Force. after my honorable discharge, i went straight to work in the pipeline and oil industry and have been doing it ever since. going on 19 years- 23 including military service doing basically the same thing lol.
I also am on the fire crew at Shell as another part of my job.
Its been a blessing, and never thought it would be what id do as a grown up. funny how that works

20 years ago, there was an instructor at Lucent that did hand modeling. He seemed to "protect" his right hand a good bit.
Another instructor, who knew what kind of character that I was, prompted me to say the line that I used earlier.

Ha! what device did that come out of? I don't have any, I deal with titanium cased medium-rate discharge batteries as opposed to the Li-Ion rechargeable. The Li-Ion mfg. line is in the same room as mine, but not that model... that one is made by a contract supplier, iTech.

Kinda...it signals the heart to beat when it beats below a certain number per minute. Once placed, generally they are in for life unless the battery needs replaced.

    Awesome!

I can't recommend one, for obvious reasons, but several last in the 10-15 year range. Fairly easy out-patient procedure to swap a new one in after that. Or there are ones that literally get placed directly into the heart; trans-catheter that have sort of a mini grappling hook and another one goes in if the first dies. Pretty cool!

There are so many variables as to how the pacemaker is programmed for an individual, but yes this is one way. The batteries are welded into the pacemaker case, which is the only reason the whole pacemaker needs replacement. Unless you are referring to really old pacemakers with external leads but I'd be surprised if anyone is still sporting those.

So you probably have devices like this all over the place? Maybe not this brand.responder-5-complete-training-handout-4-638.jpg
I install, program and integrate this and many other systems in the medical industry. The company I work for has its fingers in everything from door access/ security systems to full data communication/phone systems.
Guess Im lucky though because I truly love what I do. Just hate it when other people cant put the same amount of effort into their work thats expected of me.

Yes, although some of them we are removing the device and leaving the leads and placing new ones. Our vascular surgeon assists our cardiologist with these from time to time. We are rural so the really complex ones get sent out for removal/replacements. I wish I knew more about them, but just the basic functions of them.

I have a few around here for emergency calls in like bathrooms and what not, but most are in the hospital setting.

That's cool you install these. Do you go all over or just a certain region for installs?

My company has a specific region in Canada. We cover Northern Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Actually before my time at this company we had jobs in Russia.
I really enjoy the work we do in hospitals. We've done some work in a few world renowned facilities, I love that its always a rush and you have to be on top of your surroundings. Keeps the day moving forward.
Glad to see that you dont despise the idea for these systems.
I can see it being a pain if all you heard all day long was the call bell system. I like that it feels like I really do give back to the community at the end of day. Some people really do rely on these systems and they are actually meant to aid the workers that would respond to the calls.
I see you guys in action all day and seriously respect what you do and have to deal with.
