Just purchased a 2018 Tundra Crewmax Limited 4x4. I've put about a 1200miles on it so far and other than the horrible JBL factory upgraded stereo sounding like crap and this weird sound shortly after starting, I'm happy. This is my first 4x4 so maybe normal?

Shortly after startup and shifting into drive or drive after reverse, a light one pulse vibration sound can be heard and felt. Even the passengers can feel it. It will not do it again after that. It almost sounds like something is engaging or disengaging. Anyone know what this is? Normal?

Welcome. I agree with both conclusions: Shitty stereo and ABS check.

I'm not sure if my Tundra has an updated stereo system or not, but whatever it does have sounds great. The stereo system in my 2016 Tacoma on the other hand was absolutely atrocious, so maybe it's the shock of having such an upgraded stereo has me feeling extra happy.

Also, what everyone else is saying: That noise you hear is the ABS check and is normal. There's actually a short blurb about it in the owner's manual.

Welcome from San Diego. I have the same thing with my 2018, completely normal. You’ll stop noticing it after a while. If it really bugs you, change the setting on your door locks to go off around 15mph instead of when shifting to drive. The timing is just about the same and will mask the noise.

Welcome from Denver. You will eventually need to replace the system, because it is horrible. Until then, leave the bass and treble alone and boost the mids, it helps some. Also, the speakers sound better after they break in. My sound clipped constantly until about two months into ownership. I have 3,3XX miles now and don't absolutely hate the sound anymore. I mean I still hate it, but don't loath it anymore. LOL
