What octane gas do you use for your Tundra?

87 here also! Not trying to waste anymore money on gas than I need to.

 

90 octane, $3.70 gallon. Non flex fuel

 

Hell yeah! Nothing better than the best. Ive proven it for years!

 

Take the time to read a few things you can do to remedy that. Read my post about 8-9 mpg. I fixed that BS real quick and now get amazing mpg and power like never before.

I run pure e85... so 104ish octane runs like a raped ape in my turbo 03

 

87

 

I typically run 87, I've ran 89 and 91 on few tanks (3-4 fill ups with same octane) and have noticed slight improvement in mpg and the truck seems to stay in 6th gear more on the highway vs 87. But the increase in mpg isn't enough to offset the increased cost of 89 and 91 in my area.

92 or 93 depending on the station. SuperCharger dictates that.

 

Been running 87 exclusively for a year now, thought I read something in the manual that said 87. I did run it on 85 before that without issues.

 

I use 85 or 87, I just don't like paying .20 cents extra for 87. Not sure if it really matters. Took a trip recently and finished around 19 mpg and that was with various conditions, stop & go for 5 miles, heavy wind half the trip and 75mph + for some.

 

If I recall correctly, those at higher elevation can use lower octane than use closer to sea level, so 85 at high altitude is similar to 87 at sea level

 

I use 90 octane flex free gasoline

 

That was true for carbs but not with fuel injection. The epa and aaa ran studies and found 85 is not good for our modern motors

 

the best is what it was designed to run on and that is not 93

 

To each their own. I find my vehicle runs better with a higher octane fuel, so that's what I use.

I absolutely 100% agree with you. I own a boat shop and I see trashed fuel systems and carburetors YES AND INJECTORS from all the stubborn 87 octane users who call me crying that their engine is running funny or wont get on plane.

Wake up stubborn folk. Yes they were designed to run on 87. BUT 87 is a shit quality fuel and breaks down in no time from the amount of Ethanol in it. It turns to a varnish and a jelly like substance and clogs up your fuel system.

To each is own though. There will always be the nay sayers about 93 octane. I simply say I live it breathe it and never ever have issues like 87 users.......

 

I filled up recently with 93 and 2 cans of Seafoam. Runs better and engine sounds better, and it is not a sugar pill either.

 

Glad to see another fellow E85 user lol. Love E85. Been running that on my all other vehicles including a 05 Camry 4cyl.

Just got my truck last week and the dealer gave me a full tank of regular gas (I believe it's 87). Yesterday, I finally used it up and pumped E85. Dude, the engine just vibrates a whole lot less compared to regular gas. Big different. MPG drops from 15 to 14 with 50/50 highway+local driving. Thaz better than I thought.

 

Pretty sure I read in the manual you shouldn’t strait swap one type of gas for the other. When changing gas type you should add the new type to a half tank of the old so the sensors can slowly adjust... that’s my understanding of that anyway. I believe it’s in section 4.

Yea, thaz what they all say, which I don't blame them.
I have switched 5 vehicles from regular gas to E85 in the past 3 years (4 of them were non-FFV to start with). Long story short, I did both methods of gradual switch and cold turkey. Non of them have created any problems so far.

Thays the worst reasoning for higher octane ive ever seen. Low octane ruins carbs and injectors? It causes varnish? I think you're confusing additives/ethanol with Octane. Octane is nothing more than a measurement on its resistance to detonate because of heat and pressure. Thats it. Anyone that says putting 93 octane into an engine designed for 87 will make more power needs to stop. Its a complete waste of money full stop.

If you want a fuel system to last then stop using ethanol. That crap is horrible, especially to small engines, 2 strokes and anything that gets stores for more than 30 days. Its just not stable at all.

 

Actually the guy that mentioned altitude is correct. The fuel sold in Colorado is
85,87 and 89. 91 and 93 do not exist here at the pumps. 85 is equivalent to 87 in other parts of the country. You may be confused with E85 which I wouldn’t touch and I have a FFV.

As for me, I run 85 and I run the premium 89 here. I mix it up and I do not see any change in MPG or performance.

 

93 octane has just as much ethanol as 87 around here. In fact ethanol free only comes in lower octane when you can find it. 87 runs fine in my Merc Optimax 200. I used 93 in my Black Max 175 only because I had milled heads running 140 lbs.
