When to send my 5k service reminders? I've had my truck for 1 year and 3 months and I'm at 24,500 miles as of today and today I get my 25k mile service reminder in the mail. I didn't pay attention to the first two but the last three have come right about the time my maintenance light comes on the dash. I am by no means a conspiracy theorist but it is weird to me how those come right when I am a week or two out from needing an oil change. Surely it is coincidence but still very odd. Anybody else notice this or am I just weird because I'll go with either response.

I guess they figure how many miles you put on by month (taking average of when you took in your truck for 5K, 10K, etc. service) and guesstimate when you will be due again. So if it took you 3 months to go from 5K to 10K service, then 3 months again between 10K and 15K, they figure that every 3 months you're due.

That's how I would do it.

Is it “time?” Like are you at the time interval to your oil change or just mileage (should be able to tell through your indash menu).

I guess, if you use like the entune app it could transmit that data to toyota... would make sense for that app to do something right...

Mine have been off by several thousand miles already. My guess is they base it on how many miles the truck had when you first brought it to them vs. the next time you came in for service and send from there. And a couple of weeks ago I got a service reminder for my Tacoma that I don't have anymore.

If I cover my dash in aluminum foil will it block the signals?

SHIT! And all of mine is gone. No wonder Mark keeps getting anal probed when he took all his chrome off.

That's what I figured. I'd have to look at when my 20k service was but it seems like between it and now was a lot shorter time interval than the rest. I have put the last 5k on pretty fast.

Dammit. Now I’m going to need even more rolls of aluminum foil.

I wouldn’t doubt Toyota doesn’t get info through Entune.

Ford, Subaru (which Toyota owns a chunk), GM all have the ability to connect with your vehicle. I get monthly updates on my GMC, diagnostic checks, etc.

Trust nobody. Disconnect your battery a block from the house and coast to your garage. Use a different route each day. I wear a ski mask when driving around town because of the cameras...

With Dale Gribble as your avatar I believe you.

"Hey Hank, I know what's wrong with your truck. It's your pollution control. I heard on talk radio you don't even need them. They're just an egghead government plot. Open your eyes man they're trying to control global warming. Get it? G-L-O-B-A-L. That's code for UN commissars telling Americans what temperature it's gonna be in our outdoors. I say let the world warm up. See what Boutros-Boutros-Ghali-Ghali thinks about that. We'll grow oranges in Alaska."
