What are the benefits of the TRD Cold Air Intake? Is it loud like a K&N air intake? Convince me to get one or to spend the $400 on something else.

It's a White 2018 Limited Crew Max. I am currently getting a spray in bedliner and the trifold hard tonneau cover. I just added the rear sway bar and I am trying to get in touch with Keith @dirtydeeds to get an exhaust upgrade. I will add pics soon

Welcome! Check out our multiple CAI threads and come to your own conclusion. Trd cai looks sweet but minimal gains as the stock intake is a CAI already. For much cheaper you can modify the stock box. Look up SAMB, aFe air filter and TRD airflow accelerator.

    Good choice of color.

Welcome. I've got the TRD CAI. I didn't and wouldn't spend $400 on it. It looks good under the hood and has a washable filter, that's about it.

It has no performance benefits whatsoever. I have it on my TRD Pro and I am definitely going take it out by this weekend. I’m putting the stock air filter system back in. The TRD CAI has only been in my truck for about two months now. But, I firmly believe that the stock CAI out performs any of the CAIs out there on the market right now.

Plus, I am getting ready to install a Magnuson supercharger and it only works with the stock intake.

I read all the posts about spending $$ for nothing so to compromise I bought the TRD air flow accelerator and drop in TRD filter, total about $70 give or take. I dont notice a difference but the filter is a cleanable "lifetime" so in the long run you essentially save money. It makes a whistle sound when it's under load which can be remedied but I kind of like it, most find it annoying.

    Stock air box is best.

Get a catback and do some of the known free mods. This is the best bang for the buck.

I need to do a write up. But just take the two hoses leading to your throttle body and loop them together using only 1 of the hoses. This takes the throttle body out of the loop preventing it from heating up to 200*.

Just hook it back up in winter if it’s below freezing where you live.

What is this coolant bypass I'm hearing? Sound interesting but what's the benefit?
I have the TRD CAI. I did not notice any performance increase. The sound is about the same as stock.

It’s to lower the air inlet temperature. Our throttle bodies have coolant that flow through them causing the airflow coming into the engine to become hotter negating the cai. So the hoses that bring the coolant to the TB get removed and just looped back to itself. Similar to looping the heater hoses away from the heater core in an old car when it started to leak.

Will it loose power if you install a single in dual outlet muffler and not have anything right after the muffler?
